Apologies if this has been discussed but one thing seriously unlikable about Duncan, imo, is how he set Jory up to fail at the ritual. It should have been obvious Jory was losing his nerve, so Duncan should have had him drink first. The only thing I can think of that makes sense is Duncan hoped Daveth would survive, which would ease Jory's fears. But in that case, the pc should have been next to drink, so Jory would hopefully see someone live through it. Or maybe Duncan was too preoccupied with the upcoming battle to notice Jory's jitters.

Well maybe he figured that if Jory couldn't handle the Joining he wouldn't be able to handle all the other pleasant parts of being a Warden (chonic nightmares, really slowly turning into a ghoul, only thirty years to live, lack of fertility, your soul is destroyed killing the Archdemon) and so the Wardens were better off without him if he failed here.

And on the subject of King Loghain...why did he have a crown made? He never wore it even when I didn't steal it. Was he planning on openly declaring himself King after the Landsmeet?

This is pretty much what I thought about it. I don't know what the point of no return is for the Warden recruitment process. Beggars can't be choosers, I suppose, but if he'd been one of my potential recruits at the Vigil, I'd have told him to take a hike.

I adore Loghain, so the crown thing has always bothered me. If he won the Landsmeet, I can't think of a reason why he wouldn't just stay as Regent until after the Blight, then shift the power back to Anora. Except that because she supported the Orlesian backup plan, maybe he thinks he can't trust Ferelden to her after all. But that wouldn't matter once the Blight was over. So I don't know. I could make excuses for it, like maybe it was all Howe's idea, or maybe it's for Anora, or something... But if it is what it is then it's really OOC with my interpretation of the character.

I dunno.  The Wardens are under-represented in Ferelden, Duncan goes to great lengths to round up all of three recruits (and must have considered Jory adequate to recruit him) and now a Blight looks to be underway.  Plus he had no reason to think any of the new recruits would ever have to face the AD.  It still seems to me pretty callous and wasteful to maximize the chance of Jory freaking out in the joining, which is what Duncan did.

Isn't the throne the one in the coronation room? I thought that was just some chair.

(Husband)

Well I'm putting forth this as not Thee Interpetation of what's going on, but one of the possible interpretations of our "Blind Sufi Wisemen and the Elephant story"  (The game uniike other FRPGs was not set up for the most part with a meta-narrative except for a few "word of  God" statements here and there.   It rather seems deliberately set up for multiple interpretations like the following Grey Warden article talks about.)

greywardens.com/2010/03/the-truth-the-whole-truth-and-anything-but-the-truth/

Anyway my theory - as one possible event that is going on would be that Loghain is "floating a trail baloon".   He is so paranoid that he believes he may need to take over the country for a while, and not just through a puppet.   He doesn't make any announcements or do anything more overt because he knows he doesn't have his base suport shorn up with the Banns.

As to the crown, if he needs one Cailan's is probably sitting around a treasure vault somewhere and if it doesn't fit the palace jeweler could just resize it.
