Was replaying the mage beginning from Origins just to recap on a few things and it occurred to me, what has happened to Aeonar? Are the Templars still guarding it? Have the prisoners there been liberated? Has any further mention been made in downloadable content, either Origins or DA2, as to what the Tevinter were experimenting on there?

There hasn't been any mention of it in DA2. I would almost like to think that it might have been a small scale lab compared to what the magisters were doing in Kirkwall.

I honestly think the whole thing was just an easter egg, a reference to Spellhold of BG2. Especially since DAO was called BG's "spiritual successor."
