I read something by Bioware posted a month ago saying that the master server for authenticating accounts is down, but do we have to have it to play Multiplayer, even LAN? My friend is here on a laptop (MBP) to play some multiplayer, neither of us have played in forever so we're starting over. I've tried making a new game on my desktop computer (iMac) in multiplayer which works fine, but the game doesn't show up under LAN or Online nor can the laptop do a direct connect. We're both on Mac, I have SL on my desktop computer and the laptop is running Lion, I tried reading Post 9 by Selene Moonsong and I half don't understand it and the other half I already did and it's not working. The Port Forwarding thing I don't understand and can't do because it's instructions for WinXP only, and google didn't have any useful results. On my desktop computer I had a bunch of settings set up already though, so I may have already done it years ago.

On a lan you don't need any of that, that is all about hosting things across the wider internet. You want to either direct connect ( look in your network preferences to see what ip address the main system is using ) or select the local connection once you hit multiplayer. You might have to shut down your firewall on your mac to see if it's causing a problem, but i'd do that as a last resort and just for testing ( if that fixes it you should open up just specific ports the game needs )

Like I said the direct connect doesn't work and it doesn't show up on Join LAN page. Hmm... I was using the IP it says its connecting to when making the game, should I use the IP shown in Network Preferences instead? I could try turning firewall off I guess.

If it does not show up, it's probably your fire wall on the system that made the game ( which i will call the server )
Yes just direct connect to that system's ip address. It should be an address inside your lan, usually 192.168.1.xxx or the like. I'd try it first with the firewall off, and if it works then try turning that firewall back on and configuring it properly. ( it's a good idea to keep the fire wall protecting you even if doing so can be a bit of a PIA. ).

We just tried it from the laptop and it does show up in LAN for the Desktop computer... After a few tests I figured out it was not 1 but 2 things causing it to not work. Turning Firewall on or disabling "Post Game to Internet" caused my games to stop showing up from the laptop. I thought that check box meant "make the game online or make it just LAN" because why would they have an option in a multiplayer game to make it so no one could join... Wait I just tried it on the desktop and it still doesn't work... ah forget it, I'll just have the game be hosted from the laptop since it works for some unknown reason.
