Reaper-size is out of proportion?

At about 0:25 you see a reaper blowing up buildings in a rather slow process with its laser guns, however Soverign was 2km long. The ship here does not seem that big, granted that human architecture could stretch into the sky but in comparison to the collector pod-ship that lands on Horizon/cut-scenes of Sovereign in the citadel. This reaper looks signaficantly dwarfed. The same goes for later in the demo when Shepard is driving away from a reaper & using a gattling gun to fight it.
Secondly in that same scene i don't understand how the gattling gun is proving effective against the reaper or why one would even think of firing a gattling gun at it. Soverign took most of the alliance fleet & if i recall correctly the turian defence fleets attacking it before it went down after about 30 seconds of constant bombardment with its shields down.
Am i missing something??? (PS can somebody tell me how to ''reply'' to individual posts, i've yet to get the hang of these forums)

To "reply" to an individual within a thread, just click on the "QUOTE" button that appears at the top of their post. It will create a new form for you with their entire post already quoted within it.
Hope this helps!

Reapers are not bigger than the Collector ship. Where the OP got this notion from, I have no idea.
The collector base is significantly bigger than the collector ship, in the suicide mission we see the collector base ejecting the ship which is tiny in comparsion. Whilst no official size measurement is given, the ship dwarfs the normandy much like Sovereign dwarfs the alliance fleets. Similarly In both Me1 & Me2 we see sovereign and the collector ship grounded at a human colony from a relatively same distance (give or take a few hundred metres). When compared like this they seem near to the same size

The whole gattling gun vs reaper still bothers me, i suspect there is reasoning behind it such as the reaper being weakened already, though a gattling gun taking down an ancient highly technological reaper seems odd.

I don't know if you noticed, but it was having absolutely no effect. Hence Shep calling in an orbital strike....which also didn't do much.

Funny you should mention old tech out doing high tech. Back in the 1980s when nations started coming out with stealth this and stealth that, electronic countermeasures, and stuff that couldn't be detected on modern radar, the Soviets still had an old WWII radar array in Siberia, and the electronics were vacuum tube based, that could detect any of our stealth stuff, and pretty much anyone else's as well. It operated on a different band. As part of the treaty they had to shut it down to assure Mutually Assured Destruction continued. So sometimes a low tech weapon might be able to do damage whereas a high tech weapon might encounter the proper countermeasures.

It sort of would have made more sense if the gatling gun had been used to shoot down rockets fired from the reaper or something, wouldn't it?
At least it would serve a purpose other than showing how immune reapers are to..heh.. machinegun fire.
