No, it's a Reaper.  It even has the red lightning thing when it gets knocked over.  And they also used the Sovereign theme as temp music for that part.

There are two types of Reapers as far as we know:

"Dreadnaughts" (Soverign and Harbinger)

And

"Cruisers" (the smaller Reapers that seem to be best for ground engagements)

Check out the thread on known features. Sovereign and Harbinger are among the largest of the Reapers at 2km, and there are other that can be as small as 600-800m.

To "reply" to an individual within a thread, just click on the "QUOTE" button that appears at the top of their post. It will create a new form for you with their entire post already quoted within it.

Hope this helps!

Are they really only 2km in size?

And there's another one just like it in the "Fall of Earth" trailer, shooting down shuttles.

Yeah, Shep even calls it a Reaper in the Rannoch demo. At least, I think it's Rannoch.

The only reason I didn't mention that is because I wanted to avoid the "But Shep could be wrong!" objection.

Love that frickin' argument
Those who use it are the same people who quote Shep word for word when it suits their debate.

It's a poor argument anyway, when the Spider-Reapers are partaking in the slaughter on Earth. That pretty much makes the case.

Yeah, kind of hard to debate the nature of a large, artificially intelligent synthetic sent here for the purpose of mass extinction of all organic life.

It's fine in certain circumstances where we lack context.  For instance, the "They're indoctrinated" line on Sur'Kesh.  We have no way to know if Shep is speaking based on prior knowledge there, or is just making an educated guess. The other dialogue we can hear provides no real context.  Here though we have all sorts of context: the design of the Reaper, the red lightning effect, the fact that it makes sounds rather like Sovereign on Eden Prime, seeing others like it on Earth, the temp music, the fact that in his introduction of that demo, Casey Hudson says it's a Reaper base Shep's assaulting.

You may as well effectively say, then that none of what Shepard actually says holds any wieght.  We could have just as easily in the above example, determined that it was definitely a Reaper, even if Shep had said nothing.

Not that I meant to play devil's advocate just now.  I'm more inclined to believe what Shep says about Reapers then most others within the game (save for probably TIM and the Reapers themselves).

I sure hope Deus Ex and some of the other late 2011 releases are good. As this thread shows, we are all in DESPERATE need of something to do until March.

C'mon BioWare, how 'bout slapping together some lame-a** DLC to tide us over, hunh? Maybe a "mission" featuring nothing but back-story convos with Anderson? An appearance pack, new weapon, random, previously cut codex entries on obscure non-sentient races, ANYTHING! Throw us a bone, please!

The reapers have indoctrination anyway. It only takes a short while when the reapers land for everyone to be zombified drooling husks or mind-controlled soldiers.

So yeah... It's not their size that matters, it's the assuming-direct-control that matters.

I enjoy it when "Assuming direct control" and "This body matters not" becomes a single sentence.

Yes, we could have.  In fact, that's exactly what I did in the first place, because Shep's line there isn't really about expositing at us, it's about telling his quarian allies what's up so they can shoot the thing.  The point is we can have confidence in someone's assessments if we have a reason to believe they know what they're talking about. We have that w/ the Reaper.  We don't on Sur'Kesh. Barring extreme, "end-stage" cases, you can't tell if someone's indoctrinated just from looking at them (especially not when they're covered in armor). If you could, indoctrination wouldn't be nearly so useful a tool.  Shep may or may not be right, but we can't corroborate that based on what's seen and heard in the demo.

We knew the sizes were going to be different at the end of ME2 when we saw many differing Reapers. Including the ever talked about Scarab Beetle Reaper (hope we see that monster).

I recently read Revelation and after that restarted with ME. I read Codex Entries before in ME2, but not all of them and only those, that made me understand stuff (I started with ME2).
So in the book they said the Ascension had a crew of 5000 people, while in ME2 Shepard said 10000, the relays are supposed to be 15 kilometers long but it really doesn't look like that if you see the Normandy making a jump. So yeah, there are some minor inaccuracies and I personally also get the feeling that relations are off some time, but come on, that's nitpicking on a really high level. Remember the good old days of SNES rpgs, where your characters where as big as houses until you entered them? And the games I'm thinking of where still awesome games... (Lufia 2, FF2(4), FF3(6), Chrono Trigger and so on)

If you watch the live action ME3 trailer, towards the end you catch a glimpse of an enormous object appearing through the clouds.

Watch between 1:13 and 1:17[/quote]

At 1:23 one of the reapers also shoots out some giant blue beam that totally anihilates the building that the reaper is rather ineffeciently taking down beforehand with its red laser cannon. As others stated, most likely it is only perspective making that reaper look so big however
