The attempts by Cerberus to murder Shepard might actually turn out to be more than random firefights on missions. I can't believe people haven't been talking about this concept art/screenshot/whatever from the Gameinformer reveal story:

Image IPB

It's basically a trooper crashing into the captain's quarters from the upper window, and we can assume that the Normandy isn't docked since we can see the air rushing out. I'm picturing that maybe the guy jetpacked solo to avoid radar, and went for a really low-profile assassination. A surprisingly unorthodox and brutal method for a traditional ME story.

Really looking forward to how similar things play out in 3, and if some of them will be successful. Not overly so, but I imagine surprise abduction of your teammates for blackmail, or stuff like that might provide for nice plot twists and difficult choice catalysts. What do you guys think?

how is there an upper window in the captain quarters? I dont remember that.

anyways I wouldn't surprised at assassination attempts other than your usually mercs, troopers coming at Shepard. I would like to see more subtle attacks, a bartender who slips poison in your drink...wait that was done. well you get my meaning.

There's definitely a window above the bed. It's like a large skylight that looks out to space or whatever is above the Normandy.

Would love to see a close quarters fight with an assassin. It will be interesting to see how they manage to get past EDI.

Well the bartender was a random racist trying to act cool. Cerberus now, whole different motivation to them...

If that window can be breached by a low-enough energy stealthy enough that whoever is planning that assassination thinks one guys is enough, I'd kill those Cerberus Engineers that designed the ship ... and TIMmy for letting them.

There's definitely a shutter like in the observation rooms, this guy just got lucky it wasn't on.

Am I the only one picturing a personality sphere flying out through that window while shepard desperately hangs on to the cerberus agent before Liara runs in and biotic slaps the assassin out of space and shepard into safety? No? Only me? Okay then...

Surprise attacks and abductionsof allies! That is a good idea. Maybe quick time eventlike dead space when the assassin grapples shep, cool music playin while the assassin attempts to cut sheps throat.

Note to self: Close the Normandy’s sunroof before creating a save for ME3.;)

that would mean there has to be an inside man(woman) who shut down EDI, open the shutters, turn off alarm...

An assault on Shepards own turf? That looks awesome, I seriously hope something like that happens in game. Badass.

I don't think it's in a vacuum, at least it shouldn't be, otherwise the glass, the assassin, and the mattress should be flying out of the broken window.

The assassin probably has magnetized boots, which is also what's keeping the mattress from flying away. Everything else that isn't molded in place seems to be pretty much flying out. Except for the creepy lamp.

But I can clearly discern the air rushing out. It's still concept art though, how the actual event plays out is subject to change.

Seems like it also shows a bit of premeditation on Cerberus' part too. Skylights and windows weren't part of the original Normandy design. In fact, Shepard can protest about how it hinders structural integrity to EDI if I recall. Maybe the Illusive Man had the windows installed specifically "just in case" he decided they had to take out Shepard or even board the Normandy (the port and starboard windows are plenty big).

Yeah that's fine, it was never really a problem in the first place.

No. That "getting sucked into space" is vastly overblown (if you allow that pun) in media. If there is not too much air that can push out, you have enough momentum and pose a small enough target all you get is a hefty wind and then it's over.

EDI also says that they can be covered via shutters. It's not exactly a design oversight, it's just Cerberus not being gruffy militia and allowing some luxury.

However, this particular guy breaching the cabin so easily means they either got control of the ship's systems, like someone else suggested earlier, or they calculated a time when the shutters would usually be off. Either way, it shows fierce tenacity from Cerberus' part. Makes me very interested in what else they have in store.

That looks pretty epic.. Hope it really happens in-game.

Shepard: "Darn it, EDI, I told you windows were a bad idea!"

From the very first reveal in Gameinformer. I had it figured that the boards dissected the hell out of this thing, but there you go. People are surprised.

Yeah, but at least the glass would fly out, and if the guy was standing on the window when he broke it, he would too.
