So, we know that we'll have the VS and Vega off the bat, but we don't really have any confirmation about when the other squaddies will turn up.  So, what do y'all think?  Will Garrus, Liara, and Tali be on the Normandy when it rescues Shep, or will we run into them on later missions?  Since they're supposed to stay with you once you recruit them, I'd imagine that you'd run into them pretty quickly after you escape Earth.

Most of them will turn up later. Most likely Prothy will be the first to join the crew on Mars as we make a quick visit there, as a way of saying "Okay, leaving Legion's recruitment to the near end of the second game was a really bad idea as he barely got any screen time, so here you have the third game's secret squadmate early to make up for it... oh, and you can recruit Legion later as well, as a bonus. Cheers."

it should be quick to pick most people up.

like in ME1 where you have almost everyone when you leave the citadel.

i dont really want another situation where i have to wait halfway through the game to use thane or something.

Oh what a load of cat doodie. There is no Prothean squadmate. It'll be that stupid robo-dog.

Garrus during/around the Palaven battles, Tali through the whole retaking the homeworld segment, and so forth. But I'm guessing it won't be that straightforward, if Casey's words on unpredictable twists bear some weight.

I wouldn't mind meeting a prothean at some point. Say he was in crio for a while. I Free him, we talk a bit, he dies from being in crio for so long. Buit on the squad? That's stupid.... I'd rather much rather have Grunt, Legion, or Wrex....

If the prothean thing is true, we'll see what happens. Maybe they'll do it right. I thought having Legion on the squad was a bad idea when I first saw him, but when I met him, I was disapointed that I ran into him so deep into the game.

The squadmate structure will be very different from ME2. I don't think we're going to get specific missions for recruiting each squadmate, for instance. I don't think they'll dump all of them on us immediately, though, as that could overwhelm newer players.

I just hope we don't have to wait too long to get our permanent squadmates. It took way too long to get Legion in ME2.

You'll have a choice of so many then the rest will probally end up as temporary squadmates during certain missions, probally similar to loyalty missions.

Tali most likely after you're done with the Quarian vs. Geth mission, she'll be one of the optional squaddies.

Prothy on Mars for sure so we get him very early.

The rest I have no clue.

Well, just based on abilities/classes, other available squaddies (whether temporary or permanent) would need to appear soon.  Ashley and Vega are both soldiers.

they won't have a Prothean squadmate unless it makes since with the story. like Legion and the Geth.

So unless the Protheans grow a brain and rebel against the reapers, the odds are slim.

You say that as if it would be a horrible thing, and completely implausable.  The Prothean empire is one of the most interesting sources of lore in the ME universe IMO - I'd love to learn more about them, and their downfall, firsthand from a live Prothean.

It is also completely plausable from a lore perspective - all Bioware need to is state he/she was put in stasis when things got bad (similar to those on Ilos), and has been in stasis for approx. 48,000 years, presuming the Protheans on the planet he/she was frozen on were clever enough to make use of solar panels, unlike the fools on Ilos.

Not to mention Bioware more or less actually confirmed it.  Seems very unlikely they would 'accidently' type the name of the DLC as 'The Prothean', then explicitly state it involved a Prothean squadmate - only to realise their mistake a few hours later and delete it.

Wait, bunny, someone from BioWare explictly said "Prothean squaddie"??? I thought the only statement regarding the CE description was from Chris and he didn't mention what exactly was a mistake?

I believe it said something along the lines of 'Prothean quest/squadmate' - though I didn't see it myself when it was up. If I'm mistaken - please correct me.

Ahh you're referring to the original description of the CE. Yes, it said:

Good find!  Well somewhat similar to what I wrote, though it doesn't confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a Prothean squadmate.  That said, with a name 'The Prothean' - immediately followed by 'character' is pretty heavily implying a Prothean character.  If you were merely recruiting somebody else and investigating something Prothean, it would probably be called something more like 'Legacy of the Protheans'.

I guess we'll see.  The whole thing stinks of a dodgy marketing exercise to me...

Definitely agree with this interpretation. Personally, I suspect they moved Prothy to the vanilla game. IMO it's rather too important stuff to be a DLC, even if Day 1.

I'm sure they'll join us after we solve their species' problems. Sort of like how they joined us in 2 after we solved their personal problems. (Freeing Jack, saving Archangel, curing the plague, etc.)

I seriously hope that most, if not all of the permanent squad members are already waiting for you aboard Normandy. There is absolutely no more important place any one of them could be at that moment. Atleast I see see no plausible reason for Garrus to be on Palaven or for Tali to be at Migrant Fleet.

Garrus and Tali, for example, might as well come with you to solve their species' problems rather than be waiting for you while doing nothing.

Well considering you're surrendering your self and ship for trial, it might make sense for Shepard to tell the crew members to get off before then, so they don't get dragged into all that with him. Especially people like Legion, Thane, Miranda and Jacob. At the very least dump anybody who's got nowhere else to go at Liara's base. It will be better for all concerned if Shepard doesn't walk into trial accompanied by a bunch of mercenaries, theives, terrorists, and hostile alien species.

The only people who could probably stick with him are Samara Mordin, Tali and Garrus.
