Do you want an "ancient evil" for the next ME game?

I have a feeling that the Reapers won't be completely done with even after ME3's ending. Like they exist in other galaxies and such. It's a huge universe, and there are lots of possibilities.
Hell, we did not even explore most of our own galaxy yet.
I sorta feel the same way there. The key thing to take is Shepard will defeat the Reapers in ME3 not destroy every last one of them. I can see some Reapers being smart and fleeing or being source to start trouble with the Council. But even if we completely defeat the Reapers in ME3, they will be affecting the Galactic Community with all their dead bodies floating about.
I also feel that they could make an Origin story type Mass Effect game with the next one to come, but with them going deeper in the Origins part so we could learn alot more with the race we choose to be. But like DA:O the story would eventually lead us to focus point where the stories almost become the same. But unlike DA:O you will want to playthrough the whole game with the various races.
I will say through with all the ideas thrown out there from us for the next ME game, I feel the next one will focus on Multiplayer because it will be a new story in the same universe.

Nah. Ancient threat is the Reapers. Once they're done and dusted, I'd love to see a future Mass Effect trilogy set a hundred years after (or more) that focuses on lots of interspecies politics and war between the races. The choices you make affect the outcome / state of the galaxy by the end of the series.
I would also like to have to ability to import our ME saves into it. But only a few things are affected like Human Council or Old council etc.

Make something different!
Why does the Big Bad in Bioware games always have to be an ancient-mysterious evil?! True evil is petty and banal.

yes please...no DA2 bs...thank you
As much as I love Shep and this entire storyline, roughly the same scenario with a different protagonist wouldn't be all that appealing to me.
no Thanks, I became very repulsed by political intrigue. Not only it does very little to me but it was forced down my throat in my old V:tM chronicle were everything was always and only about politics.
I'd rather have a survival horror/RPG hybrid set in a thorian/husk infested colony

The galaxy is a large place, who's to say a race like the Krogan or Rachni couldn't emerge and threaten the galactic community with large numbers or what not?
1st game: Galactic Civil war / introduction to a new race that seems innocent
2nd game: Galactic Civil war causes instability and new race becomes agressive
3rd game: War with new race
The possibilities are endless. I hope we don't get a new trilogy any time soon though. I want to see what next gen stuff can do with ME.

Ancient evil has been done to death since H.P. Lovecraft and The Lord Of The Rings, even Babylon 5 did it.
No more ancient evil!
Cosmic evil from the future that has come back in time, or plain old brand-spanking-new evil will do just fine.
I assume you're referring to the Shadows in B5. They weren't really "evil" they just promoted a philosophy of grooming the younger species to be independently strong by sewing conflict between them.
In that case, the Reapers aren't really evil, either.

What you mean ancient ?
You man more ancient that Protheans which are 50 000 years old,
or you mean more Ancient than the Reapers who are maybe older than the whole god damn Earth.
Anything more Ancient than Reapers have to be the God.( or the Gods if you are politeist
Comeone - This would get silly if there were actualy Foes more ancient than Reapers.
Althought I have red some theory that Reapers actualy are Fighting Billions years spanning War with another super beeings civilization from another Galaxy. The Cycle of Extincion was a proces Reapers used as a resuplying and restocking before returning for another 50 000 years share of conflict.
Should Shepard and Aligance of Citadel Species defeat Reapers they will in fact strip our galaxy from the last line of defence against this other Menecefrom beyond our Galaxy. Intresting theory isnt it ( it is a mix of someones else Idea nad mine)
Well Harbringer said this himself - "WE are your Salvation througt destruction" - Reapers were actualy the good guys preserving our galaxy form the threat of total anihilation ^^

"Evil" is a pretty useless term, yes. Unless you're religious and believe in the devil. then it becomes useful to attach to people who oppose your point of view.Gravity Bun wrote...

Can of worms: opened.
"Evil"; for want of a better term, should be reclassified as "the force that the protagonist is struggling against" in this instance. We can bang on forever about the theological definitions of the word but at its base is the understanding that evil is the opposite of "good", a philosophy that exists in many non-religious schools of thought.

It should end with 3. The longer a series goes, the more chance it has of jumping the shark. Let Mass Effect end on a high note that will always be remembered, instead of being remembered as a series that ended up milked and everyone just goes on and on about how good the series used to be.
Shepard's story should end with 3, but there is still room in the future for future settings using different genres in the ME universe. Too many possibilities to pass up.
And I trust in Bioware's creativity for future ME games. Not going to let something like DA2 stop my optimism.
