OMG you hate final fantasy XIII too?!
TEN ****ing hours before the game decides to let you actually have fun? Yes I do hate it. I really enjoyed Final Fantasy 12 it was great and if I felt like avoiding an enemy...i could =o

I
finally installed 1 and 2 after finding my copies.  Got all excited to
see what the fuss is about how the first 2 games are so superior.
Started it up and instantly hated it.  Boring turn based with no
direction whatsoever.  I get to the first town or whatever and I have no
idea what I'm doing.  I lose patience and uinstall never looking back.
Whatever you have against Fallout 3 at least its playable.
And you not liking the game mechanics of 3 is not our problem or a good reason to hate a fantastic RPG.

My
point is I could find no enjoyment in 1 and 2 and you could yet their
considered 2 of the best games ever made.  You find no enjoyment in 3
and everyone agrees with you.  Some of us would never have looked twice
at Fallout if it weren't for 3.
I do not hate Fallout 3 because it's become a shooter I hate it because all of it's "features" were done much better in a much more important way. I mean seriously Mass Effect I really only. Deus Ex I love rpg's with guns can be done though has done it bettre then the original Deus Ex.

It ruined what they had going with Final Fantasy XII, if you ask me.

My body will not physically allow me to play more than one minute of an RPG I don't like. I've tried a variety of RPGs that never suited me, such as selections from the FF series or Gothic or every single Fable, but then I'm all like

nope.avi

Wtf happened during the devtime from 12 to 13? I really enjoyed 12. Haven't had that much with a FF game in a long time and then they ruin it.

dungeon lords hands down... it is an abomination

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention this.  It's one of the few games that I have ever played that I shelved in disgust, rather than disappointment.  I never would have bought it myself, it was a gift.

And I really don't think it is fair to judge games as bad RPGs because they try to incorporate elements of other genres.  If you don't like those genres fine, but judge the RPG parts on their own merits, and don't fault a game for trying to branch out.

Dragon quest VIII the journey of the cursed king

if anyone played this game please tell me what you thought about it because i hated it the leveling system was...how should i say...IMPOSSIBLE to level up after oyu get to lvl 20 you will end up needing 50000 XP to level up and the enemies only gives you 200-800 i don't know about anyone else but i just don't have enough patience to grind that much and when you get ot lvl 40 you will need 300000 XP now how the hell am i suposed to grind that much? and don't even get me started with the enemies they jump level WAY too much one boss was lvl 20 and the other one was lvl 30

1:the combat system was WAY too awkward and i hated the leveling (if you can call it that) near the end of the game the stats upgrades starts costing 3000 EACH! and well...i hated the fact that IF your leader dies its game over and the enemies ONLY attack the leader making the phoenix downs a lot uselless and i didn't care about the characters at all

2:well i quite enjoyed  final fantasy XII i just didn't like the fact that your XP was decreased if oyu were in a party like if you have a party of 3 characters each of them will only get 1/3 of the XP the enemie gives out when its dead and and the other characters you are not using don't gain XP at all thats my only take on the game i had to GRIND WAY TOO DAMN MUCH to even beat the second to last boss and don't get me started tryng to kill Yamat (at least i think its spelled that way) ****ING 20-30 BARS OF HEALTH AND EACH ONE TAKES FOREVER TO GO DOWN HOW THE FU- AM I SUPOSED TO KILL IT? and the worst part is when i was with low health IT F*CKING HEALED ITSELF TO FULLL HEALTH!

The Last Remnant and The Lost Odyssey.  I dont think there are words, in any language, that aptly describes the utter contempt I have for these two particular titles.

Even if I did not enjoy DAII, I'd not even mention it in the same breath as:

Gothic 4
The Sacred Series
Might & Magic IX
Risen

Personal hate object even though it's far less rotten than the above: Oblivion

The Legend of Dragoon (I took it out of the console after twenty minutes, drove back to the store, and returned it. Only game I've ever done that with)
Wild Arms (Played it all the way through a couple of times. Not sure why now)
Final Fantasy 2 (the actual one, not 4)
Final Fantasy Legend 2 (pure masochism)
Suikoden 4 (Worst. Voice. Acting. Ever)

And an honorable mention for Suikoden 5, which despite an interesting story had load screens that took almost a minute and a half in some cases.

As you can see, none of these games are recent. I had a lot more time to play bad games when I was younger.

If I remember correctly the two games had overlapping Devtimes so two entirely different teams did them.  Since it was the last PS2 one and the first PS3 one. They both used 10 as a starting point and lept in two very different directions from there.

13 felt like a real step backwards from 12 as a result.

Spent three months efficient leveling a character in Oblivion(it wasn't a custom class so it was hella hard). Got it to level 25 and then had my hard-drive die on me... lost all the savings. Now i'm back from scratch. I hate it a bit, but there are some awesome quests in there. Oblivion isn't about the main quest, it's about leveling and finding something nice in the game... like being a vampire :X Dunno why you guys hate it so much... it's one of the most role-playing games out there.
Worth rpg I've played... hmmm... :-? Really hard one... I really like all rpg, but I gotta say drakensang... the animations are so boring... I would have prefered them to move like they do in the mmo.

Different dev teams basically. FFXII was made by the same people as FF Tactics and Vagrant Story; FFXIII was made by the FFX people. I loved FFXII, but whilst I do think FFX is a very good game there are major elements I'm personally not fond of and think the game is a bit overrated.

Ultimately I knew FFXIII would not be a good game long before it was released, especially when I read how streamlined it is. A year on and I still haven't finished the game.

Worst RPGs?

Skies of Arcadia and KotOR (that's the first one, never bothered with the second after the rather horrible and downright bland bollocks that was the first).

2e AD&D and Shadowrun.

I'm evaluating both from a purely rules-oriented PoV. I absolutely love Shadowrun conceptually. But the rules suck.

It's like the franchize degenerated.

"Guise i got an idea automatic combat that looks turnbased and static, with out of map combatencounters"
"Vary original, let's add lots of fanservice and horrible plot"
"k"

I loved the FFXII settings, the grinding was optional, yet fun. I have a near 1000 hours of gameplay on it, would be more if the game didn't kill my PS2

I liked the persistant world combat, it certainly added a different feel to the game for someone who has played all the FF games up untill now, not to mention about 80% of the JRPG released in the west.

It was nowhere near flawless (the upgrade system worked in blind choices, you basicaly needed to print a pic to know what you would upgrade next.

But the overall presentation, the hunts, optional espers and slightly less linear style made it original.
