When starting a new playthrough with a new character, do you start out on Insanity, or do a normal run, level up to 30, THEN do the Insanity run? I wanna do an Insanity run, but am iffy about starting out at level 1.

Starting an insanity run with an imported level 30 character is difficult. You start with no upgrades and the enemies are scaled up to your level. It's easier to start right on insanity and not import to it.

^this
NG+ ( that is what we call it when you import a level 30 ME2 character ) is a lot harder than normal insanity until you get enough upgrades.  For example the Claymore with one upgrade wont one-shot a fully shielded enemy at point blank range with a vanguard.  Also, like he said, the merc you face on Mordin's mission will be weaker than the mercs for Samara's recruitment mission.  I try to plan my missions on insanity around the upgrades ( when playing vanguard I will do the Jack mission after Mordin so I can get the 2nd shotgun upgrade for example ).  Good luck.

Starting an Insanity run at Level 30 is a good challenge.
You have all the powers you want... and the game is scaled to its absolute maximum. It's hell... but each time you beat a mission, it feels like you've earned it.

It's down to whether you want to take it steady and build up a character as you go through (lite) Insanity and hit full Insanity only when you reach Level 30, or whether you're willing to deal with just how ridiculous the maximized difficulty is from the moment you step on to Freedom's Progress (I swear, that first battle... mechs have never been so powerful as they are there).

Well I'll tell you what. I'm in the middle of recruiting Mordin right now(first mission after Freedoms Progress), and Insanity is HELL. I've died more times in these few missions than I have the entire time I've been playing. Instead of just a glass jaw, I feel like my Adept is made of nothing BUT glass. Something touches me and I'm down for the count. Mind you, it's my first adept, and first time on Insanity. Takes so long to kill things, Jacob and Miranda don't stick to cover and die a lot, right now this just seems stupid difficult.

Normal Insanity (starting a fresh character, or just not importing a level 30 to it) is, in my opinion, pretty easy. You just have to get used to it and then it becomes a giant pushover.

i did NG+ as a sentinel and it was mostly longer . Since you have to stay under cover a lot because of low protection, endless streams of enemies take longer to defeat.
And your squads do die more because they also have such low health.

Playing the Adept, i start on normal insanity . Horizon and Garrus recruit at level 30 as an adept.. gah !

Its not you, it takes a while to get used to the Adept class.  For your first insanity run its better to try a class you are familiar with.  I studied a lot of videos posted in this forum before I did my first Adept insanity run, but I also had played it before all the way thru on hardcore.  Even the adept guru folk say until you get that third biotic upgrade ( not available until after Horizon ) its a slow go.

Just going to quickly derail here for a moment...

Would you suggest any bonus power for an Adept besides Barrier?

I like Energy Drain for shields or warp ammo for weapon use.

I'm more of the roleplaying fellow, so Energy Drain doesn't work too well for me since it's a tech power. Warp Ammo just seems redundant with warp, and I could just use Jack for that anyways.

I don't pick ED anymore because of roleplaying either, I just pointed out that it's very potent. I like my guns having an extra punch,  and I reserve warps for warp explosions.

Stasis, if you have it available (requires Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC). Although early game--when you have only Warp and Singularity--you may want to go with Slam, since it has a 3-second cooldown, it can replace Pull to a certain extent until you put points into Pull yourself.

I never was a fan of Stasis. I mean, I guess it could help, but the way I play I wouldn't need to use it. I was thinking of maybe using Dominate since I believe it's a biotic thing, but I'm not too sure about that one.

Stasis is basically an anti-YMIR button if you need it. YMIRS were never a problem for me so I don't use it

I never have problem with YMIRs. Sure they take me a bit, but it's never an issue. Kind of interested in the possible usage of Inferno or Flashbang grenade, seeing as I've never used either. Might be fun to mess around with, and it could fit with my character since he's more of a Biotic Soldier than "Mr. Sitbackbehindcoverandspamwarpbombs"

Flashbang Grenade (particularly Improved Flashbang Grenade) is vastly superior to Inferno Grenade. Inferno Grenade is pretty much useless.

However, for Adepts I recommend mostly sticking with your default abilities. My personal favorit build is:
4 - Heavy Warp
4 - Heavy Throw
4 - Singularity
4 - Pull Field
0 - Shockwave *
4 - Nemesis
0 - Any *
* I usually go 1 point Stasis but I usually forget that I have it. 1 point in Shockwave is fine since I rarely find any use for it with this build. Pull + Throw is my favorite biotic combo. To quote Jack (Subject Zero): "Fly, b****!"

Warp bombs are usually on the fly for me since you can cast singularity while moving, shoot someone twice with the scimitar, pull and warp him and clean up. It took a while to get down but it's very effective.

i often see build recommendations for level 30 which is fairly easy , you eliminate shockwave and max the rest.
But the problem for me is always to decide where to apply those menial 2 points you get per mission.
Before Horizon you can't retrain, so once you commit, that's it , can't change your mind.

I max singularity, get a point in pull and then focus on passive. Singularity is golden for harbinger and scions on horizon. Pull for the explosions.

Alright, getting really pissed off now. No matter what I do or where I tell my squad to go, they die. I can't get through the Mordin recruitment because of this. Seriously, how do I keep them from dying all the damned time? Don't have enough Medi-gel to keep reviving them.

Are you doing an NG+?  If not then try to get Jacob to squad incendary before you start that mission.  ( Import a level 50 or higher ME1 character and do some side missions + Kasumi DLC if necessary ).  The vorcha and Krogan are good targets for incendary.  Also, try to be as active as possible ( keep focus on you ).  There are a couple of places to snipe on that level, and even if you don't have a sniper rifle you can shoot them safetly from there -- long process.

If doing an NG+ I don't have a clue - only played vanguard and soldier as NG+ and did not care for it.

Nope, just starting a brand new Adept at level 1. Unfortunately I don't have a ME1 save(played ME1 on the XBox), but I have beaten this game a couple of times already on my PC, once as Soldier and once as Vanguard.

NG+ is a breeze with Stasis :D*

*No, not totally, but it makes a huge difference. So does having a bonus weapon and lvl 30 squaddies to start.

OK, I recently did a scratch insanity run ( starting at level 1 ). What I did was the dogtag mission, Kasumi mission, all firewalker missions + Overlord to get Jacob squad incendary. After that it made it tolerable. You also get the Locus gun which has an armor multiplier. But you might have trouble with Kasumi and Overlord with a low level character also ( for Overlord final fight had to use ALL Arc Projector ammo and some spawned for me so I could finish it ).

Another thing to try is go ahead and use the Arc Projector on the Mordin mission where you are having trouble. For Miranda have her use SMG, give Jacob the Geth shotgun ( maybe they will stay at range more often ).

Folk importing a level 60 ME1 character have it easier than they think - They get squad incendary right out of Freedom's progress ( I am told ).

Good luck. With Miranda and Jacob you should be able to do some warpbombing in tough places.
