i did mordin's recruit as an adept on insanity 2 days ago .( i don't import any char... and i'm still an adept noob . ) The hardest parts are closing the vents .
I always go close the vent on the right side first ( and stay at the very end till only a few vorchas - and all pyros are dead ) , then coming back up ( watch for the krogan ans pyro) you run the other side but stay upstairs by the banister till you take all enemies down , then go down and close the 2nd vent.
In the first part when you fight blue suns, i position the squad in the middle (" behind cover of course) and i run along the corridor on the left and stay in the middle pretty much. Even if your squad dies, you'll be able to take everyone down with biotics and weapons. Just check your health bar all the time.

i also find the first levels of the adept tricky . ( thanks for the reply regarding early points allocation ) I did Zaeed right after MOrdin, then Jack's . NExt is Kasumi and then ARchangel and finally Grunt . A few side missions before Grunt to reach level 11 before Horizon .

The Adept and Engineer start out slow because they're more ability dependant than the other classes. When you have some points in all your core abilities with a squad complimenting said abilities, it's smooth sailing.

I recently went through these sections, the Krogans were the worst with their carnage strike, but that was more from me being too aggressive too early.

Once I went slower, the right shutter was easier, and from my experience with a few other classes I didn't have too much trouble with the other two shutters on the center and left.

And the second fan for Mordin's RM was tricky, cuz of the number of rocketeers I faced.

How much harder is insanity (ng+ and level 1) than hardcore? I'm curious really because having easily beaten the game on veteran (with a sentinel) I'm now into a level 1 start playthrough on hardcore with an infiltrator. It's a lot tougher and I'm still not sure about it but so far I've completed Mordin RM, Jack RM, Kasumi LM and Zaeed LM. I've died a few times but I'm not sure if that's due to the difficulty hike or the class I'm playing! As the op says it's keeping your squad alive that's the main challenge and also trying to make best use of crap weapons, weak powers and long cooldowns. The worst early game enemies in my book at these difficulty levels are the blood pack guys. I hate pyros and Krogan berserkers and I'm dreading the archangel mission as it trashed me last time out on veteran and it's definitely my bogey level :(

That kind of difficulty jump shouldn't be TOO bad. I made the jump from Normal to Insanity, no inbetween lol.

^^ Yes but you say you're struggling on Mordin's RM which IMO is the easiest of the 4 dossier missions prior to Horizon. Now I've done the mission you're stuck on with little trouble (but on hardcore). I'm just curious as to the difference between hardcore and insanity. To be totally honest I don't have the nerve to jump straight to insanity and would prefer to work up to it gradually! I want my game to comprise of more than just dying every 5 minutes because I'm too rubbish at it!

SR2 @ I did the same as you are proposing. Did hardcore. Adept then insanity adept. There is a bit of difference. Once it was easy to get past the harder parts of the game ( horizon, collector ship trap ) then I did my insanity run. Now that's all I play. You will notice a difference. I believe there are duration penalties on duration of power effects on insanity. Also enemies scale to your level.

Yep, a 20% duration reduction. But I don't think it's a big problem though.

Ryoldschool @ What exactly is this trap on the collector ship? I've heard it mentioned but on veteran I breezed through the mission and it was so easy it was laughable! Am I in for a nasty surprise there on hardcore? I'm playing as an infiltrator by the way.

The trap is when you get to the collector ship, where you think the enemy is gone.  They set a trap for you.  On hardcore and Insanity( don't remember about other levels ) there are five platforms that show up, including two Scions.  If they show up on veteran, then you have seen the whole trap.  The difference is that its really hard to get past that part on Insanity - they do more damage, attack more often, and are harder to kill.  Sinosleep made some videos of infiltrator getting past that part on Insanity.  He is not active at the moment on these boards, but he is a master at this game.  Here is his video he made to help someone out last year.

Ryolschool @ Ah okay it's the very first skirmish of the mission then when Joker is doing the data upload (or whatever it was he was doing!). I remember the platforms coming in and one of them did have 2 scions and a few abominations. I wasted all of them with warp, slam and the Viper SR :) It wasn't hard on veteran but I can't remember how many platforms came in... Oh well, I guess I'll get there again and find out soon enough! :)

I wanted to add something that I had remembered recently, related to enemy scaling, so I thought I'd link this old thread with helpful info: social.bioware.com/%C2%A0social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/261/index/5787956/1

Praetor, you the man. I remembered those examples, but don't remember that I created a thread on it.

That's a very interesting thread on enemy scaling and I fully support the game acting that way on insanity. It sounds extremely tough for "non elite" players so I guess I'd better enjoy the relative easiness of hardcore before making the step up!
