I'm so sick of friendly, or even enemy NPC's stealing my XP!

It's bad enough Allister swoops in to steal the last kill hit (thus mana suck) from every enemy I've worked down, but at least there, you still get the XP for the overall kill.

But this crap of NPC's killing (usually with a puny shot to barely finish off) enemy units... AND NO XP IS GRANTED!!!

Just playing through the Fade/Magi Tower (4th play-through, Rogue Archer, ugh), and just had 4 mages KILL THEMSELVES (as I'm dealing damage to them) and I got no XP!  Keep reloading and trying to get all the kills myself, but the idiots keep blasting each other with fireballs... AND I GET NO XP FOR IT!  ARGHHH!

My 2nd character was only 300pts from lvl 23...  I could've made it were it not for this unusual game-mechanic.
:crying:

ADDENDUM:  Since people apparently can't read or I don't explain well enough... I'm NOT talking about your own party members.  I'm talking about non-party member NPC allies, OR I'm talking about enemy-on-enemy NPC friendly fire.  (it also can apply to "Waking Nightmare" and "Blood Control" spells).

In either case, you do NOT get that XP if you don't get the kill-shot.

This is unlike most every RPG I've played.

2nd ADDENDUM (for the fanboys):  Since it's apparently not obvious, this is a sarcastic, over-the-top, "tongue-in-cheek" """rant."""  I'm not serious in mood or demeanor, only in the topic.

A testament to the "caliber" of users on these forums that such a note even needs made.  :pinched:

What's this? You mean my party members are not the only people in Thedas capable of killing enemies? That makes no sense!

I think some people just don't have enough to do.

Baawwwwww... I'm so sorry for you that you didn't make it to the level 23.... What a pathetic thread. Suck it up dude, it's not a MMO, it's RPG - you play for the story not the killing

There are many ways to prevent them from spellcasting.

Use one of these: force field, Mind blast, Andrasde's Arrows, horror, sleep, dirty fighting, traps, cone of cold, crushing prison, any templar skill, Mana Clash, winters grasp, petrify, earthquake etc.

Seriously, the problem you mentioned is not a problem at all.

Oh, I have to agree with the OP. I mean, it's not a big deal, but it IS irritating to have friendly NPC's constantly stealing your kills and you get no exp for it. It's just an annoyance really, not a major problem, but still.

I can't recall which game it was, KOTOR or Jade Empire or something, but one RPG I played a while back, and I think it was a BioWare RPG, had it so that anytime anything died, for any reason, you got the exp for it.

Set your tactics to when an enemies health drops below 10% or 20%, set each npc to "wait," they will take down the enemy and stop attacking so you can come and get the final blow for XP. They will just sit there taking damage though, so make sure you have a good healer in your party.  Posted Image

The XP is split up among the party for every kill - otherwise my healer would never level as she don't kill anything (hardly).

yeah it does seem to split up XP but my main character levels faster than the rest, thankfully!

It's not party NPC's, but non-party NPC's. Like when we get into a fight where there's friendly NPC's that aren't under our control, and that NPC gets a killing blow, the party gets no exp from that kill. Quite often I'll unload AOE's and intentionally kill or otherwise incapacitate "ally" NPC's due to their tendency to steal my exp.

Gotta admit, this is a pain. Not a big pain but definitely a pain. Just last night I fought a big battle against a (orange-con) blood mage. At the end, he shot a fireball off and killed himself. 0xp.

At least I think it's 0xp. Has anyone actually checked the xp bars before and after to see if the game just isn't reporting the xp gain?

I wonder if they have a forum where they can go to whine about it too? Posted Image

The only fix I can see is if you got exp for the damage you do, rather than the kills. This could probably be abused with healing enemies though.

This sounds like an idea! Posted Image I wouldn't be suprised if there was already coding in place to prevent enemy healing (by accident) so there was no way to do it on purpose, thus the exploit might already be sealed.

It would be better to do as I mentioned above, and assume that anytime something hostile dies, the player character should get exp.

Wow, my original post, while serious in spirit, was tongue-in-cheek.

Amusing how many snide remarks, tantrums, and name-calling it illicited.  Amazing.  (And the irony of what the statements imply about those who made them, often the very thing they ascribed to me.  Flat out pathetic.)

Anyhow, in many other RPG's, ANY kill is you/your party's XP.

In DA, you DO NOT get experience if either a non-party NPC ally, or an enemy via friendly-fire, kill an opponent.

ps.  to those who get satisfaction from doing so, when making smart-aced comments, try not to reveal so much of yourself when trying to attack the other person

Nice rant. So you're saying you want all the XP and your party should get nothing? Or do you just want more?

If the first, then you should keep in mind that your party members also need to get stronger. Or go ahead and play alone, leave your party at the camp. If it's the second, then why don't you just micromanage more? Set your party to "manual" (the small hand/walking symbol under the faces), then let Alistair walk away, same goes for the mages / archer. It's that simple.

Okay, I give you that: It's even more simple to rant in the forums...<_<

No dummy, he wants to get exp when a non-party character, such as an enemy Mage, inadvertently kills crap. It's actually not unreasonable, this is pretty standard for a single player RPG, stuff dies, you get XP. This is even more aggravating if you use Waking Nightmare -- you really ought not be penalized by being smart enough to get the enemy to kill each other, or for having non-party NPCs get the last hit on something when you have no control over them and can't tell them to f**k off and go away because you don't need their help.

Ok OP'er this is how it goes down:

Your party attacks a Darkspawn...and you all get hits in but in the end Morrigan gets the killing blow...it says lets say 74 xp over her head...

This is only there to show the amount of XP gained in total, that 74xp is actually as evenly as possible split between all 4 of you, HOWEVER, if you are the only one not to successfully hit the target, all others get XP but you. So don't slack.
