Sorry if this has been asked before but the seach bar didn't help.

Starting another playthrough of DA2 and just want to know if anyone has compiled a list of ideal companions to take on each quest for maximum gain in the Friend/Rivalry stakes and general party banter.

I've seen the lists on the Dragon Age Wiki but they are sorted by companion rather than by quest.

Many thanks

Hum, the one with Kelder nets most with Isabela, Merrill and Aveline/Varric.
Thrask letter gives 10+ Merrill which is the highest i think.. Choose anyone but Fenris and Isabela here for friendship too.
Wayward sun is Anders, Merrill and Isabela for pro mage.. Fenris, Varric and Aveline for anti. i think.

I can mostly Merrill's friendship in the head, i have her and Aveline maxed by end of act 1..

All I know is that it is very difficult to help mages and not end up friends with Anders - I'm at a loss as to how to get to full rivalry without totally compromising my principles and agreeing with Templars on everything. I kept sending them back to the Circle rather than setting them free but still ended the game on the rivalry side of midway and lost Questioning belief conversations in Act 2 and 3 as a result because my rivalry score wasn't high enough. It might work if you end up friends with Merrill, because he hates blood magic and if you criticise blood magic, destory books, etc, then that boosts Merrill's rivalry, so I imagine if you read the books, etc, then that would be a negative with him but have yet to test this.
Generally what Anders likes, Fenris doesn't, but there are occasions, like turning down the offer of a demon, when both will approve. On the whole they both hate slavers, but Fenris probably more than Anders and of course the latter doesn't apply that principle to Fenris himself.
Isabella doesn't like it if you're good for goodness sake - charitable handouts are a big no but lying about it to someone else in order to trick them puts the plus points back again..
It is best to leave Averline at home if you are doing anything illegal or don't uphold the law in conversations with others.
As for banter, just mix and match and go for a little stroll around the city during the day. That way you get to hear the conversations and aren't suddenly interupted by some band of thugs. If you haven't tried putting Averline and Isabella in the same party, there are some great cat fights between them but strangely enough they do seem to like one another really. Make sure Isabella is in the party when you do the Averline/Donnick match making to spice it up a little. There are amusing exchanges between Varric and Fenris, Isabella and Fenris, Varric and just about anyone really.

I found it doable to be fairly pro-mage and still get Anders' rivalry maxed.  One of my mage Hawkes didn't like the templars, but found Anders to be really obnoxious.  I'm sure there's more, but here's what I can remember helped me:

Be a smart-aleck or direct during personal conversations.  Play a noncommittal charcter or devil's advocate just to annoy him in some of the mage/templar debates.  When Anders asks for help, some of the hostile answers net you rivalry points yet the quest will still be available.

Don't take him on quests in which you know you'll lean towards the mages.  Agree to deal with demons (even if you later back out of it).  He always approves if you let him save your sibling in the Deep Roads, so plan your party accordingly.  Don't allow him to help you with Idunna either.  Turn Ketojan (sp?) back to the qunari and don't argue about magic with the scary horned men.

If you plan on supporting Merrill's plans, take him with you during her personal quests (he even has a conversation when you're talking with Merrill to start the get-the-tool quest so bring him along then).

Be sure to do Fenris' Act 2 quest to get Anders' gift to nudge the rivalry even further.

Hope that helps!  :)

Try checking the Dragon Age Wikia. You'll soon find your answer there.

This is what I usually do when I want to rival Anders, without being a douche to mage who don't really deserve it:

- Tell him that merging with Justice was creepy, no matter his reasoning for helping a spirit (Talk to Anders, Act I)

- Bring him to Act of Mercy and accept the quest from Thrask with a sarcastic reply.

- Turn in Grace to the Templars (You can easily net +25 Rivalry)

- Bring him to Shepherding Wolves and refuse to escort Ketojan (Don't worry, you can switch him out of your party and continue the quest with someone else without trouble)

By now you should have about 45 points. Just don't take him to the deep roads because simply acting wisely nets you huge amount os friendship points.

Act 2 is quite straightforward. Give him the gift, and do his personal quest. When those are done, Anders will be at 100% Rivalry!

Edit: Well, I got ninja'd. Posted Image
