Unless Maric has another bastard running around whom he sold the same story to...Page 443:
"[...]What do . . . what happens normally whena Grey Warden has a child? It must happen, surely."
"It does. We give the child up. I told them I already had a place in mind."
"There isn’t another way?"
"I wish..." Fiona shook her head firmly. "No, what I want is for him to be human. I want him to be fully human and not in line for your throne, not competing with your other son and tied to this royal blood that has brought you nothing but grief. I want him to have a fresh start." She looked at him hopefully. "You can do that, can’t you?"
"I can have him raised away from the court," Maric said, considering. "But people are bound to wonder who his mother is. Loghain will want to know. The child will almost certainly want to know... What will we tell him?"
"Tell him nothing. Let him think his mother human, and dead." She reached over to where Duncan gently cooed and rocked the baby, patting his head with a melancholy smile. "It will be easier, for him and for you."

With Feynriel, he's human but the elf-blood gave him slightly pointed ears and a narrow head.

not to mention Alistair doesn't look anything like a person who has both human and elf blood in their veins.

Technial limitations, maybe? Like the Qunari and their lack of horns in DA: O. Plus, it may be a artistic change. Alistair being so loved by the fandom, I don't think they would want to change his look to look more like a elf.

What if Alistair was actually not illegitimate? What if there was a little ol' switcheroo at birth...a little prince and the pauper action? (Mad speculations, I know!)

Cailan is about 5 years or so older. A switcheroo would be difficult.

You're forgetting that The Wardens meets an elven/human man (Slim) in Origins who looks completely human; Feynriel looks as elven as he does because of an artistic change in the series (which is why Zevran looks nothing like he did in Origins).

they would only have to give him slightly pointed ears to drive the point home that he has elven blood if they didn't want to change the actual face.

And who's to say they didn't change Slim to be... slim? Maybe he went on a Thedosian Jenny Craig diet
And I liked Zevran's new look. A few minor tweaks and he'd look great.

I meant that Fiona's child was switched with Alistair. So the child of Maric and Fiona would still be unknown. An extra layer of subterfuge. Sorry - I didn't really phrase it well the first time.Herr Uhl wrote...

Not that that's out of the question, of course. I get the sense that Maric probably has more bastards running around than just Alistair.

Why would both Loghain and Eamon then keep the cover up? Loghain could easily have used it against Alistair that he is an elfblood, yet he kept it secret.
Accusing him of being Fiona's child means acknowledging him as Maric's. Not necessarily worth it.
