yes, there are. I've got a lot (+25 or +15 - I can't remember exactly ) friendship for Carver.

In my experience, if you're on a friendship path, you have to be nice to him (diplomatic option) during an important conversation at the end of a side quest in legacy. I can't say for other companions as Carver was the only one not locked for me at that time.
