I still laugh about the guided missle to the face of someone (forgot who, think Jacob) during one of my playthroughs. So a missle can hit you square in the face, yet you are totally intact? I dont know why it is so funny, but the whole "missle to face" thing cracks me up.

They've made great strides in the field of spandex in the future.

EDIT: and to answer the thread, I never lost anyone.  I'm such a completionist that when I heard somewhere that once you get the IFF you've basically run out of time to do the other missions, so I held off on getting the IFF until everything else was done (including all upgrades).  When it came down to picking specialists and leaders, I just read the handy descriptions offered up with each squaddie as you pick them (ME:Hmmm, tech specialist.  Says here that Tali is good at tech. *click*).

I personally didn't choose either of them....... I picked Jacob. LOL

I see a lot of people did that. why? Miranda said plain as day "you can't do it" and she really knows. And what's with Grunt not being able to take a bullet!? Miranda can and she wears spandex!

She is genetically enhanced of course: as in, her ****** deflect bullets.

I came close.  During the first conference, I picked Zaeed as the fire team leader.  About two seconds later, I went "OK, wait.....he's totally gonna get someone killed" and reloaded.

If only every pair were that useful.

I honestly didn't know what to expect when it came to the choices. I didn't know if my choice would result getting him killed or somebody else. It came down to "You volunteered? Oh okay, sure go ahead".

That and picking Grunt as the second squad leader because I thought he was the most durable to hold the line were the dumbest choices I made in my first run of the SM.

I lost Jack the first time but it was accidentally on purpose I had her as one of the squad leaders. I didn't like her much and kinda guess'd she would die.

I lost Mordin and Jack and all the Cerberus crew on my first run. Jack I lost because I used her on the second fire team (I heard "distraction" and thought, "Jack would be perfect for that"). I lost Mordin because I used Grunt as an escort, so the only heavy left to 'hold the line' was Garrus. I hadn't downloaded Zaeed yet. I lost the crew, of course, because I took way too long entering the relay.

I'm glad I had that playthrough, because the loss of those people really packed an emotional punch. Walking by engineering and seeing that Ken and Gabby weren't there, having to remind myself to check my email because Kelly was gone, going by the mess hall and not having Gardner bantering with the crew... it really brought a tear to my eye.

These responses were better than I imagined. Some really funny stories that accompany what you did.

Missle to face....argh!

If the crew were alive, they would be happy Gardner was gone. His calamari gumbo had "the runs" written all over it.

And here I thought I was the only idiot who did that. Hug?

Also, Miranda is ironically (and probably intentionally) time and again proven to be wrong with her whole "I'm an excellent judge of character. I think you'll find my assessments to be right on the money.”, while Zaeed isn't as much of a leader as he is a survivor.

I do similar compulsive things like that in other games too. It can eat up a whole lot of time.

I'm not sure I agree with you about Miranda though. She's right to suggest picking up Mordin first and she does cauation against heading straight for the IFF. If you haven't fully prepared then she is also right to suggest that you not run off and save the crew.

She also does get the job done if she is elected to create the seeker swarm barrier. She says she can do it... and she can, just not as well as the actual biotic powerhouses.

I don't see the problem, it's natural selection at work. Who am I to interfere with nature

"Im a merc, look I bought my own gun".

Knock yourself out kid...

Depends on your renegade/para options I reckon. Still funny though and I can basically guarantee that a huge percentage of people lost members their very first playthrough if they played right at release.

On my first run-through I lost Grunt as the fire team 2 leader because, hey, a krogan, a species with a reputation for being extraordinarily hard to kill won't die from a single gunshot wound to the chest right? Especially not when they have the power to give themselves super-shielding, right? And because I thought Jacob would be completely useless and die for no reason I sent him back to escort my crew to the Normandy. And sure he accomplished that, but I failed to realize that Mordin was unfit to hold the line (which in retrospect I should have realized considering the talk about Captain Kirrahe).

Also, Kaiser Shepard and Saphra Deden, I am mildly surprised to find people other than me who spend hours figuring out what all the conversation wheel abbreviations actually say and trying to create a perfect role playing experience with Shepard.

Knowing how powerful Miranda's chest is, she would have been ideal for "holding the line" to all firefights.

Look at the bright side, Jacob was the first to die like any good black character should.

Grunt also seems to be carried away by seeker swarms more than other options. Guess the whole "stand in the bubble" thing was hard for him to understand (how I lost him in the original playthrough).
But seriously, he cant take a single gutshot, yet is built like a brick ****house and is the same creature that charges into enemy's constantly. Damn you Grunt.....Sheagar would be ashamed.

I lost Thane because, again, figured he'd be good at breaking into stuff. Not so much. Lost Zaeed because I thought the old veteran would be the best one to lead a squad...not so much. And I lost the whole crew because, for once, I didn't have all the time in the world to stall the final mission - out of nowhere.
