The main distinction between EA's and Valve's service is the fact that Origin will AUTOMATICALLY revoke your game rights for not being on in 24 months. For the sake of time, I will just copy and paste my post from the other thread:

<snip>EULA</snip>

Anyone defending EA in this case is a fanboy that defends every action associated with Bioware or it's partners. Valve is being blamed becuase EA wants to make some extra money along with little loop holes to screw over the customers.

The point you raise here in the EULA is one I have a major problem with. There's other elements of the EULA I don't like, like how you're giving permission to EA for relay back *any* information from your computer if you use the Origin client, there's no limits suggested or implied. There's also an item from the Q&A for Origin where it states that EA only guarantee that you'll be able to download the game for 12 months after purchase. I find this a complete joke. Comparing Steam with Origin, Steam is well ahead on being fair to the customer. Also I don't like the wording from the Q&A of how EA just terminate a game and no longer support it, does this mean say if I buy BF3, EA hit the kill switch I can no longer play the single player even if I purchased a disc version? To me, this feels like EA don't give 2 ***** about its customers and just wants to screw them for maximum profit.

Okay for an MMORPG where you paid a monthly fee just to play, fair enough, you need to fund all the backend servers, without them the game is nothing. For a game like say Team Fortress 2 which is purely a multi-player game okay I can cope that you have to have some client (Steam) running in the background. But if ME3 requires Origin running to play I'll be so ****** off, because I find EA's EULA and T&C for Origin unacceptable. Why will I be so annoyed, because ME3 is a purely single player game, why the hell do I want EA to decide when I can no longer play ME3. I loved ME and ME2 and I'll probably want to play them in 10 years time for some retro gaming and the fact that Bioware has produced such a quality game.

I took part in the BF3 alpha test. Loved the game, and I'd happily pre-order it. But due to the requirement of Origin I won't be purchasing it, and quite possibly I never will. Shame really since I think DICE have done a good job. BF3 I can live without since there's lots of FPS in the market.

ME3 on the other hand is the 3rd part of a series I've really loved. Assuming Origin will be a requirement just to play ME3 could I boycott it? I really don't know. I find Origin so unacceptable I probably will have to. I've got no reason to hate Bioware, but the ways things are going, I'll probably never buy another EA game unless they seriously improve the Origin EULA and T&C. And then EA has to earn my trust, which at the moment is zero.

So it's up to you Bioware to kick some sense into EA. Make ME3 available via Origin and via retail box without the Origin shackles. If I see the option to pre-order on Steam, then I can believe I can purchase ME3 via retail and avoid being forced to use Origin.
