Seriously, we know very little on the rachni aside from the snippetts we have from ME1 and the codex. Technically extinct all we have left is supposedly what comes from the colony on Peak 15 and if you allowed the queen to live.
Culturally they are isolationists, and live to exist as a hive, so I can't see one joining Shepard anytime soon.

A bunch of reasons:dannybates wrote...
Any reasons for not having one ?
Disscuss?
1) You can't give it weapons or outfits.
2) You can't talk to it.
3) People will want to f**k it.

It'd be cool to have the Queen as a squad member lol.

Really, the biggest problem from a gameplay POV (which also happens to be the dealbreaker in the case of squadmates) is that rachni can't use the human skeleton for combat animations (or use normal weapons and armor, for that matter). All squaddies have to use that - that's why we have yet to have a hanar, elcor or volus squad member.lovgreno wrote...
Well we already have a geth squadmate so I can't see why a rachni would be impossible. A queen in a human disguise perhaps? In any case I would like to meet and talk to that interesting and very alien race.

Problems with animation and pathfinding (look how good Urz follows you on Tuchanka). And how exactly weapon upgrades will apply to it?

You don't need a rachni squaddie when Bug Shepard is in command!

Their song will join ours - and thats fine and dandy. Thats all I ask.
If we were to have a Rachni as a squad member, it would have to be a queen, and queens need drones... you get the point

No.. I don't think it will work so well as a squadmate.

This is true. It's either the turian or human type of skeleton that the squadmates are based on. But why can't there be a rachni variant who uses one of these skeletons? There are alrady a lot of different rachni of different builds and functions, I'm sure the writers could think of some good storywise explanation for putting a humanoid skeleton in some kind fo rachni.Arcian wrote...

That would still mean problems with weapons, armor and speech, most importantly.lovgreno wrote...

Even so, there is no indication that there are bipedal rachni.

If it is built kind of like a human why not? It worked for Legion right?Arcian wrote...

There is no indication that there are no bipedal rachni either. A bad argument I know, but true anyway. Also the rachni are very intelligent and adaptive as their rapid expansion proves. If they want a rachni who can blend in with the humanoid aliens in tha galaxy I'm sure they can adapt a rachni to fit this role.
So what boils down to is that if BioWare wants rachni and/or protheans on the team I'm sure they can make it happen storywise and programmingwise. Personaly I support both Prothy the prothean and Rachel the rachni.

And why would they do that?
They're already way more powerful then most species.
Only reason why would they o that is, well, Shepard wants a Rachni squadmate for some reason.
As for Legion comparison, it's not the same.
Legion has same body type as normal Geth.
Only real visual difference are head flaps and longer antenna on his back.
And reason why Legion can interact with you and everyone else is hardware upgrade that is specifically made to look after Shepard since he/she is responsible for destruction of Nazzara.
For Rachni it's not that simple.
Especially since only Rachni Queen is only sapient Rachni and can interact with organics. And that's only with mind controlling other organic.
