I have a theory. They get a new face map for every game, right? It's the only way to make Sheploo's face fit with the new graphics. Maybe Mark Vanderloo had a beard when the time came for the ME3 face mapping, and either he didn't want to shave it because it took work, or didn't shave it because he wanted male Shepard to have a beard, or maybe Bioware told him they wanted Shepard bearded and so told him to let one grow.

Either way, I bet Mark Vanderloo is the reason.

Sheploo always had stubble. It looks different prolly because they use newer tech to render models/beard.

Damn it! None of my Sheps look that good, IMO (and probably everyone else would agree after seeing them. I know my Infiltrator is a piece o´cr*p compared to YOUR Shep.)

sorry about not sniping the pictures but I think male Shepard should have a beard during the trial due to probably of possibility of being imprison before trial as the trial being schedule to make sure Shepard tries not to escape.
