I would try to negotiate a truce between the two but, if one side refuses to cooperate, then I'm afraid I'd have to side against them. I'm guessing that the Quarians would be the first to say, "They're just machines", and try and fight. So, regardless of my love of Tali, I'd side with the Geth.

Unfair how many toasters do you know can talk and have consious thought?

None.  But then, the geth had no conscious thought when they were created either.  They were just labor bots with some pretty good VIs installed.

to be serious the quarians just annoy me, all of them. i have yet to see one that i like. But that aside, they commited genocide against the geth, and the geth kicked them off their worlds. From what i gather the quarians will probably make a push to reclaim homeworld and shep will have to choose one faction. I would choose the geth, they have pure numbers, all of them are soldiers that can fight and they have top of the line ships. Not all quarians can fight, they are limited by their suits, their "fleet" is nothing but a junk heap, they cannot make war. My shepard will side with the stronger side and the Geth fit the bill. Not to mention the geth can come to consensus faster than the bickering admiralty

No, the geth slaughtered them in the billions and the remaining ones fled before the job was finished. So if we're talking genocide, the two groups are very much more than even.

Why does everyone say the Quarians committed genocide? The geth are robots they are not alive. Legion even tells Shepard not to compare geth to organics because the geth are machines.

Life is defined as the property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organism.
www.thefreedictionary.com/life

Geth have internal reactions, grow, reproduce, and respond to outside stimuli. Maybe not in the classical sense, but they still satisfy the qualifications of being "alive".

So all computer viruses are alive then?  Good to know next time you run malware call the cops and turn yourself in please.

Microsoft word, has internal reactions, it can grow, and reproduce, and damn sure responds to outside stimuli.  Next time you delete a document call the cops and report a murder.

If you format your hard drive you've committed genocide, call the UN and let them know you're guilty of war crimes.

Clouds have internal reaction, they grow, reproduce, and respond to outside stimuli, they're SENTIENT OMG RAWR!!

Ya i think many people supporting the geth don't really care that they slaughtered billions.

They just think....

"Durr......Geth were JUST defending themselves from those EVILLLLLL soon to be bucket heads, the Geth were NOT the wrongdoers"

But there came a time in the war when the Geth had stopped fighting just to defend themselves, but decided to wipe out every man, women, and quarian child they got their hands on.

But it made sense that the Geth wiped out almost the entire Quarian species, it was because they were soulless.  Not "soulless" in the sense of not having a literal soul (if one ever existed), but lacking a sense of morality.

They thought in a logical sense, that Quarians were threatening their existence, therefore the threat needed to be eliminated, and they didn't see really a difference between Quarian combatants and non-combatants.

They became cold killing machines, killing without regret or remorse for they knew no such thing.  They became like their parents, except they became better killers and better in the art of genoicde, they didn't fail like their parents did.

Justifying what the Geth did to the Quarians is like justifying what skynet did to mankind in the Terminator 2 timeline.  In that timeline, when skynet became self-aware, people tried to shut it down, because the machine valued its own existence, it thought like a logical computer, that humanity was a threat to it, and therefore it launched nuclear weapons.

When it comes down to it, the Geth have more "blood" on their hands then the Quarians.  That's why i favor the Quarians more then the Geth, though im not against the idea of a peace treaty between the two, but i think the Quarians deserve their planet back.  Besides you can't punish the son for the sins of the father.  For that is what people are doing when they say that the Quarians living in the RTF (rag tag fleet) shouldn't have their planet back because of what their ancestors did to the Geth.

Whoah whoah whoah you can't bring up Skynet to win this debate. The Geth play video games, and have catchy one liners, they're so cool! Skynet just tried to end all organic life on Earth...

Wargames had an AI computer that was going to launch Nuclear Weapons because it didn't know it was just a game.

None of these are the same situations though the geth did not attack first but they won so they are wrong?

You want Proof?  How about using something called common sense?   We know the Quarian species numbered in the billions, and we know not every quarian in existence was apart of their military, we also know that many Quarians were children/babies.  Put 2+2 together.

So your blaming the father for the sins of the son now?  Yes the quarians did wrong, however once the geth gained free will they are responsible for there OWN ACTIONS, they became "there own man" so to speak.

So what Machiavelli said, means the Geth were perfectly justified?

Let me use a real world example:

A man walks into my house, he pulls a gun on me and tries to kill me.  I shoot him.  He falls down and is not injured, but not fatally, i kick his gun away from him, he is no longer a threat to me at the moment.  Now according to your perverted sense of justice, i should kill him like i am putting down a dog.  After all, according to you, i need to make sure he would never threaten me again, for all i know, he may return for revenge if he escaped from jail.

No man their wrong because their machines because VIRUSES AND SKYNET!!
These aren't normal machines.  You can't compare them to toasters or viruses this is different than anything we have in real life or in other Sci-Fi.  Most Sci-Fi have given us this "machines will some day take over and try to kill us" mentality and Mass Effect comes along and changes that.  The Geth aren't looking to exterminate all life in the galaxy.  We already have the Reapers aiming for that.  They have beliefs and their own opinions seriously the anti geth people seem to completely ignore Legion in canon or something.
"oh but the geth killed their masters and ran them off their homeworld"
only because they didn't want to die themselves
The fact that they have self preservation desires proves you can't treat them like a simple toaster.  You can say they don't deserve it all you want doesn't change the fact that they desire it.

No, it's called "induction".  What the hell do you think happened to those billions of quarians?  They died of natural causes?

Geth. They did nothing wrong other than breaking free from enslavement. It's the Quarian's fault for building an enslaving a sentient race.
