Plus that girl you save in Repentance is sent to a Chantry, and gets taught to read and is becoming a sister.

If Sebastian's past is any indication of his future, something else will distract him before he even reaches Starkhaven. In the event that he doesn't talk himself out of his own solemn vows (again), he will probably just tack a poster to the Chanter's Board and wait for someone else to do it.

Guy: Prince Sebastian!  We are prepared to march on Kirkwall at your order
Seb: Excellent!  Is my new armor prepared?
Guy: Well, ser, the armorer wasn't sure if you preferred gold or silver gilding, so he made both.
Seb: O_O  HOW CAN I CHOOOOOOOOSEEE?!?!?! ::flailing and waffling::
Guy: .....

And then the army waited, slowly dwindling away.

Close, but not quite. You never tell her to go to the Chantry. She elects to become a sister herself and is being taught to read as a consequence of that.

Leandra can send Orana to the Chantry.

Is this headcanon or actual dialogue? Because all I've been able to get out of her is "And elven slave? I hope you know what you're doing." But that's because my Hawkes always said that they would pay her as a servant.

Dialogue. It's what happens if you free her, but don't make her a servant.

The actual line is: "I sent the elven girl to the chantry. They can help her, I'm sure of it." (Talktable entry #6148960)

Ah, never done that. Poor Leandra is probably mistaking Kirkwall for Lothering. It would be an easy mistake for her to make. The Ferelden Chantries were less concerned about politics and more concerned about helping their charges. You see refugees lined up in Lothering and Redcliffe, but Kirkwall's poor and downtrodden all seem to wind up in Darktown. The Kirkwall chapter doesn't seem to care much about what happens to Eveline's kids, anyway. She petitioned the Chantry to help them and descended to blood magic in part because the Chantry refused aid for them.

The Chantry is also a place that also takes care of orphans, widows, refugees, the poor and the sick. Leandra can send Orana to the Chantry. The Redcliffe Chantry gave succor to refugees from the undead, and Leliana also took refuge at the Chantry after fleeing from Orlais.

So... is it just the one person that Anders killed? I doubt it. A good number of innocents were likely there a well.

Whilst I don't disagree with any of this, the whole 'two wrongs don't make a right' thing is why I resent Sebastian for his promise to return with an army, and his insistance on executing Anders. I could easily picture Elthina, wherever she may or may not be, watching with disappointment as he marches off. When will you learn, Sebastian? All those years in the Chantry and still you do not learn.

Mmhm. The various chantry sisters/mothers wandering Lowtown asking for donations were particularly irksome, I thought. Asking beggers and prostitutes if they want to make a donation? Really?

You know when I got that letter from her. I didn't even know who that chick was at first.

Which wasincredibly stupid on her part. The Circle is for mages. Not for their normal children. That's the Chantry's job.

And? Lets say there was 100 people in the Chantry that died. It is still a fart in a phone booth compared to the thousands that will most likely die or suffer in other ways from an army getting marched on.  It's still a childish, juvinile reaction. And overkill.

There was like 7 or 8 people at the Chantry. Not the 100s like people claim.  And people seem to forget that it happened at night.

Which the templars are part of. It would not have killed them to at least send a message to the Chantry that those kids needed to be looked after. So it was not stupid. The Circle is a subsidary of the Chantry, not a seperate entity, as are the templars.

Now it's my turn to ask, where does it mention Evelina petitioning the Chantry to help them? I just looked through the entire talktable for every use of the term "Chantry", and none of them mention Evelina.

Yes it was stupid. It's no different than someone wanted for being suspected as a threat to national secruity going to the military when there's an orphange next door and ask them to takein some kids then act shocked when they get arrested and the military guys couldn't give two hoots about the kids. The military guys might be nice enough to direct the kids to an orphange but its sure in hell not their job.

The Circle is for mages however. Those kids weren't mages. Hell those kids wern't even hers! And the Circle, templars and Chantry all have seperate duties.

At the time, Eveline was trying to work through legitimate channels. Since Circle mages are prohibited by law and by threat of bodily harm ("I'll get 30 lashes for talking to a civilian") from talking to outsiders. Her options are limited. If the few people Circle mages are allowed to talk to opt not to pass that information along, can Eveline be faulted for not signing up for the lash?

Are you seriously going to tell me that wars where the death toll was in the thousands have never been started over incidents with death tolls in the dozens? World War 1 was started because of the assassination of one man. It may be childish and juvenile, but maturity was never a requirement for royalty, politics, or war.

Is there a reason in this case we should not believe Sebastian will not carry out on his threats, or at least try?

Common sense.

He's grieving and angry.
He still lacks the army needed to attack anyone. It will take months (at least) to built such an army. (Unless I'm missing something.)
The situation will have changed by then. (Anders will have died or left.)

Common sense? This is DA2 we're talking about. Seeing how I spent the game dealing with a bunch of irrational maniacs and lunatics who make threats and carry them out over the lamest of excuses, why is Sebastian any different? Nothing I've seen about Sebastian tells me he thinks much through anyway.

@Berelinde: Lol, that's pretty much what I've said. He'll go put a notice up on the Chanters board to raise an army. And then hope that the Warden stops by and takes the job.

I think Sebastian is like the only character in the game who could earn and destroy my respect within the time frame of a minute. I forgot about his tantrum pretty quick, though, as soon as Meredith opened her trap again.

You'll have to forgive my doubt... there are no mentions of going to the Chantry for aid and being turned away anywhere in the talk table. The closest I can see is her going back to the Circle (not the Chantry), where they locked her up again.

Unless you're equating the Circle/Templar organization with the Chantry. In my view, they're related, but not the same. Like how the Supreme Court and the Armed Forces are all part of the federal government, but different branches with their own jurisdiction.

She was an apostate at the time. Would it have been truly so difficult to send the kids to the Chantry? The kids dont' need to be there with an adult. The kids most likely didn't even need to become brothers and sisters to be housed (if what Leliana said about those who live in the chantry is true). Not to mention Eveline was from Fereldan's Circle oiginally was she not? She wasn't whipped for talking to civilians. (not until after she went to the templars asking for money and food).

Of course it isn't. And I'm well aware why wars start. It does not make it any less eyeroll or facepalm worthy.

In fact, Sebastian is pretty typical of most nobles in that respect. He is not unique. It does not make him any less annoying or facepalm worthy. And unfortunately, while you can execute Anders and at least balance the book for that crime, sadly, there is no shank Sebastian option in there either, when he throws his threats around and then storms off.

I mean, in DAO, you could execute Alistair as a potential threat to the peace and stability of the kingdom. Why can't we do the same with Sebastian?

For the same reason Hawke can't serve Anders to Meredith on a platter before the Last Straw.

Go plot railroad Choo choo!
