At the time I thought they were different but as I think about it they could be thought of as the same. Meh if the mods think it's the same topic then they should shut it down.

I start a new game of Fallout 3 and suddenly all the haters come out of the wood work... So many reminders that the story sucks. So what moving on.

Fable 3. Also Oblivion (still one of my favorite games) but the story was almost non existent to me.

Oblivion is just a wasted potential. Same goes for Fallout 3. So, yeah, story kind of sucked in both.

I'll throw FFXII into the mix. I actually really loved that game and spent over 200 hours on it but the story was weak and uninspired. I'm very much of the opinion that if they had attempted to tell the story from the viewpoint of Basch/Ashe and not the whole "I wanna be a skypirate" story of Vaan/Penelo that it would have been a great story.

Someone else who gets it. As for the story yest FO3 was bad but everything else clicked for me.  The enviroment that feeling of isolation.  The unknown that the next bend will have.  As great as New Vegas is it just doesn't have that for me.

Why does this thread needs to be about RPG stories and not game stories in general, this changes anything?

I liked FO3 as well, loved it - great story, epic game world. It was the very first videogame I played after probably a 15 or 20 year hiatus.

But I liked FNV even more.

Final Fantasy Dissidia Duodecim. While the combat system is more addictive than most illegal drugs and incredibly fun, the story is soooo horrible! Was especially weirded out in one scene where the writer seemingly lucked out and created a truly memorable and inspiring event out of pure luck. It was a most predictable scene where you already knew what the last line was going to be, but it was still set up so nicely...

... until you realised that perfect line which would've excused half the game's writing quality never came. I don't know what was worse, that the plot itself was so terribad or that -Dissidia- inspired me to write a little story that took better care of the scene xD
