That Sonic game, possibly Sonic Adventure 2 where him and a human girl seemed to get it on.

FF8, it started out so well but then it turned into the woman who just happened to be everyone's babysitter being possessed by a time travelling witch from the future while emo boy moped endlessly and everyone else pandered to him.

FF13. It shouldn't require supplemental reading to understand whats going on. Plus having characters who made me wish the bad guys would win and wipe them out really didn't help.

Kingdom Hearts. It what happens when you combine Final Fantasy story telling with Disney moral wrapped up in a complete and utterly convoluted mess of a story that not even the main characters of the story know what the hell is happening.

Any FF7 game that isn't the original. Those side story games sucked storyline wise.

True, FF7 is a bit like star wars in that it has become the victim of it's own success and just got milked for all it was worth.

Fallout 3 was kick ass. I didn't care for the two first games because I'm not a fan of click rpgs. O-o''' I'm so done for. XD

Someone else who gets it. As for the story yest FO3 was bad but everything else clicked for me.  The enviroment that feeling of isolation.  The unknown that the next bend will have.  As great as New Vegas is it just doesn't have that for me.

I thought the main story for Fallout 3 wasn't as bad as people make it out to be, it was very short, but who buys Bethesda games for the main story anyway? Plus tranquility lane was great and that was part of the main story.

Isn't this the the worst story thread? I've played and heard about plenty of games with worse story than Fable, Final fantasy and Fallout 3

Anyway here are some more for the thread: Pacman, Tetris, Vampire rain, Earth defence force, Halo, Borderlands, Saints row, Too human, Street fighter, Resident evil, and there's over a hundred more.

Modern Warfare 2.

Micheal Bay would have done better job.

I dont know, if Micheal Bay made it the game would likely blow up the second you turn it on Image IPB

Made perfect sense to me... /: *spoilers*
I mean what isn't to understand, the darkness took over destiny islands, sora got the keyblade, Riku went off with malificent for power and got controlled by the power he seeked to control, and kairi lost her heart (although it was inside sora the whole time)
Sora adventures about, meets donald and goofy who are looking for the king. Then sees riku corrupted  to the point he doesn't see sora as a friend, they all meet up again at hollow bastion, and Riku, who at the moment he has the most power because of his darkness, was able to take the keyblade from sora forcing donald and goofy to follow riku instead because they were under orders from the King to follow the one with the key. Beast appears and pretty much beats the crap out of everything because he's a freakin' bad*** who wants to save his love. Then sora and riku meat again and sora has a mental revelation about his heart and it grows in light power via understanding of it, thus allowing the key to be taken back by sora. Riku is defeated, freaks out, and then is approached by ansem. Riku, in his lust for power and need to defeat sora, accepts ansem into his body because of the power he promised. Of course ansem, or his power, if you will, (power of darkness taking controll of riku  is something of a recurring theme, and it just makes him more awesome when he can control the darkness later) completely took over his body and used it as a host while Ansem controlled it. Ansem got his own weapons though, fought sora again, lost, but he left his weapon to unlock people's souls behind so sora sacrifices himself by opening his own body so Kairi's soul can escape and go to it's rightful owner. Sora becomes a heartless, but when he sees kairi his heart is re-awakened via power of love and he becomes himself again.
Ansem becomes more powerful. Sora goes finds ansem, big fight, in a desperate gambit Ansem opens kingdom hearts to try to absorb it's power. Sadly, Kingdom Hearts IS LIGHT, and ansem is pure darkness. Thus, he is purged, so riku is no longer corrupted and ansem is mostly out of his system. So he goes to help close the gate to the dark world (it was opened because kingdom hearts resided within it) along with king mickey who appears which solves the mystery of where the heck he was the whole game. (saving to quell the heartless threat from within the darkness itself).

Yeah, horrible story.
And sure it my sound a bit confusing, but I know KIDS who understand all this stuff.

Mostly talking about the series as a whole.  Also the fact that literally 5 characters in the game are all the same person.

It still all made sense in the end. ('cept maybe birth by sleep or coded as I didn't play those yet...) Although, granted, KH2 was pretty confusing the at the begining, especially if you didn't play chain of memories.
But all in all I very much appreciated the story.

^ No it isn't, it's just a children's game! :D

But in all seriousness, the twisted-ness of it despite the fact that it is made for children is one of the reasons I love it.

Thinking about it, it's criminal that a game that is excessively linear and cinematic even by JRPG standards has a storyline as uninspiring and poorly told as FFXIII's. The characters spend the whole game travelling aimlessly from place to place, not really knowing whats going on and instead having emo FFX-style conversations where they contemplate what the point of the whole thing is (much like the gamer's thoughts enduring the corridor level design).

FFX-2 is the worst storyline I've experienced though... outside games where the storyline is just a minor part of the game. For all the praise FFX receives I don't think it's storyline was that great either.

Elsewhere, I find the FO3 and Oblivion stories very dull and the main reason I never really got into either game.

One game that comes to mind that had a really terrible storyline was Fable II.

For such a vast, interesting looking world it was disapointing that the backstory and lore were so shallow and cliched.

I like Fable II but when I play it I almost try to imagine my own story. Fable:The Lost Chapter's story wasn't great but it was still far more compelling than Fable II's.

Fable III's story was an improvement but the gameplay felt less open ended.

Also, I agree about the story based Need for Speed games.  Hot Pursuit III didn't have a story and it was an amazing racing game.
