I remember reading a post from the devs before the game came out describing the combat stats as non linear, and even hinting (I thought) that they might give you a break in some battles.  Based on a very small sample, this certainly seems to have happened to me in the biggest battles of the game for me so far.

1)  In the Battle for Redcliffe against the undead, the longest battle of the game for me to that point, I was about half way through the battle and down to one character, my mage PC, no potions left.  After a lot of shameless kiting I finally won.  Though i was frequently down to barely visible red, the character survived fight after fight.

2)  The fight against Jowan finally came down to a bedraggled Jowan versus a bedraggled Morrigan (eveyone else unconscious, no potions left).  One mistake, one lucky hit, and the fight would have been lost.  Didn't happen--Morrigan wins.

3)  The fight against the sloth demon came down to a hard hit final version of the sloth demon  versus Wynn.  Again, Wynn (the worst fighter I have ever had--though she has other values) comes through and wins.

Well this was all great fun--close victories instead of cursing repeats--but might there be a bit of programming to aid the player when things are desperate in boss battles?

Anyone else have similar experiences (Yes, i know I am inept compared to some to have such trouble with these fights--I am not looking for people to tell me they had no trouble in these fights, but if anyone else suspects a little programming help when things are really desperate..)
