I'm a male gamer with genuine appreciation for femshep. She is excellent. Nothing more need be said.

And fellas, do you like the strong female characters in ME?  Do you think the non-combat aspects of ME3 need more attention paid to them for the sake of potential new players?

On Basilisk Station (April 1993) - I was 14, Honor was my first introduction to a strong female lead. Since that time, I've never really liked the idea of the Damsel In Distress. The stereotypical machismo of a knight in shining armor rescuing the helpless maid... Really Grinds My Gears (sorry, Family Guy reference, had to).

Since Honor, I've seen the hollywood-helpless-chicks as a drag on the story. The same as the idea of a helpless male in a reverse of the stereotype. I find it hard to believe any hero would be attracted to such a helpless twit.

I played Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Dragon Age: Origins with female characters... I just generally prefer to play my games with a female character. Being a man, I perfer to look at and listen to a female. The young man inside who first read Honor Harrington, however, demands that a woman can whoop as much kiester as any dude.

I find it frustrating when a game is written strictly from a male perspective, such as Gears of War and Assassin's Creed. Both great games with excellent sequels that would have benefitted from a gender option. They both have the redeeming factor of being written for a specific character, however, so it's not entirely unexpected :)

I was pleasantly surprised when I first caught sight of the Test Subject in Portal and noticed it was a woman... Not that it matters in the Portal games. Zero dialogue.

Strong characters trump weak ones, regardless of gender. Though it's always nice to see a woman who isn't simply a delicate flower (Tali and Liara come to mind, they're not only smarter than everyone else, but far younger, which stands nearly all hollywood-esque stereotypes on their heads).

Ok it seems you are a troll, or a hypocrite, take your pick.

Or a moron if you don't know what I'm referring too. Sorry I couldn't help responding, sometimes these things need to be called out, especially in the case of trolls. Wonder if my font colour is spot on...

Not a troll. Hypocrite maybe, but I'm not the only one in this thread. And I like to think I'm not a moron, but hey, we all have to be wrong sometimes, don't we?

Anyhow. It occurs to me that I've been stirring up the poo in this thread without ever actually addressing what it's about. My apologies for that. Let me try again:

And to my fellow XX-chromosomes out there, what initially drew you to
Mass Effect?  What do you want to see in ME3?  And how do you feel the
marketing goons should address you and others who haven't picked up the
series yet?

I've always been a sucker for games that let you choose how the story goes. Surprisingly, I hadn't been exposed to much of Mass Effect before I stumbled across a few videos on YouTube, so I was going in blind and pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Frankly I probably would have bought the game even if it didn't have a FemShep - but I'm glad it does, because I ended up taking a new perspective on video games as a whole. Felt pretty awesome.

In ME3 I'd like to see...more of the same, really. I'm overall very happy with how they've handled FemShep in the series so far. Of course there are the small hiccups, like the animations and bits of dialogue here and there, but these are minor enough for me to ignore and I know BW has promised improvement on these issues. I'm an overall satisfied customer - should I leave these boards?

I think I've beat the marketing question to death with a lead pipe in my time here, so I guess I'll just sum it up cleanly: continue marketing FemShep and Sheploo. Try to take the people knotting their fallopians up about FemShep with a grain of salt. And most importantly, give us moar.

I... turned 23 that year. :o Love the series, even with the Weber-level infodumps. :o:o

I'd also recommend the Vorkosigan Saga novels by Lois McMaster Bujold.
