So anyway, girl gamers are awesome and so are certain females in video games.

Hell yes.

EDIT-

Really hoping to see some strong independent women in Deus Ex Human Revolution. Already aware of a few. Good stuff.

Oh look, someone who posted in a thread and didn't pay attention to what the OP actually says. Goodbye.

Oh look, someone who pretends to be right when they're not. Haven't seen that before.....

Oh please. This thread is founded on the premise that Femshep is as capable as Maleshep is and how "she exists".

A gamer is a gamer. Doesn't matter what gender you are.

I thought you were out.

I am, but in the internet, the last one to post is always right. Funny how that works.

And besides, 9 in 10 rednecks assert that girls should not play because it is undignified for them.

TL;DR version at the bottom

didymos1120 wrote...

That's pretty much the same as this:

http://masseffect.bi...edia/video/111/

Talking about the general premise, a glimpse at exploration, some conversation, and some combat.

This is actually what I meant (allthough there are way worse trailers than
this particular one) First half focuses on how you recruit a "killer"
then some renegade interrupting, then 10 secs exploration and then
explosions. As I said, this isn't the worst example and if the entire
marketing campaign would have been like this I wouldn't have complained,
but as I said before it didn't.

On a sidenote:

(sorry, I had to :P)

didymos1120 wrote...

The bulk of the ME1 videos actually made by Bioware showcase either pure
combat or consist of action/drama-packed clips from cutscenes....plus
combat. This isn't very different from those made for ME2:

http://masseffect.bi...2/media/videos/

Even the ME2 character videos had their ME1 equivalents (though
those were done on the cheap by just stringing together some brief
snippets of conversations from the game with some ME-style chirons
slapped on).

Character Trailer ME1:
Character Trailer ME2: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/subject-zero-mass-effect/56982

The point is that with ME2 they tryed so hard to make everything look
badass that it started to backfire. It's not just the SZ trailer (which
was indeed the worst offender and spawned a lot of controversy on its
own), but the others as well (Grunt, Miranda...) Of course I can only
speak for myself but it got to anpoint where the "They are so tough and
badass and uncntrollable" stuff became borderline silly. It got to a
point where the characters got depicted differently from how they
actually appeared in the game (the trailers made everyone look like a
lunatic who enjoys killing people)

I'm not quite sure how to say this but in ME1 it felt like things were more "real".
The thread Shepard faced was real, and everyone actd appropriately. In
ME2 the Collectors felt disconnected from the actual plot about the Reapers
and for the last fight they had to pull the Terminator out of nowhere just to have
him die 5 mins later. It felt like there was no real danger (compared to
the reapers at least) and because of that they tryed so hard to make
everything look badass and epic that it didn't fit the setup anymore and
to me that fake sense of urgency showed in the trailers. Everything is
"badass" and explosions are everywhere, but there is no substance behind
it. It's a weird feeling that is hard to explain. In the end however it depends
on your personal tastes and the style you prefer I guess.

didymos1120 wrote...
You're also neglecting that the vids released for ME2 include the "Art of The
Game" series that focused solely on things like the art direction and
character design, and the "Sci Vs. Fi" special which was almost entirely
about the choice/story side of things (yeah, they were Machinima and
SyFy respectively, but they were done with Bioware's very obvious
cooperation for the very obvious purpose of marketing the game and they
also appeared on the ME2 website).

Maybe. I must admit that I stopped following pretty much anything regarding
ME2 after some of the worse trailers and some bad arguments on the old
forum (often with javier before his modtime) about the direction this was going
into. In fact I didn't pick up ME2 until waaaaaaay later, shortly before the release
of the PS3 version because I was so fed up with it. (and because what I saw
and read about it was what I wanted to see and read at the time I assume)
Now please keep in mind that I am not writing this from the perspective of a mad
fanboy (that'd sound differently), but from the perspective I have now, which
is that, at least half of the trailers give you a false impression of
the game. Especially comming out of ME1 all the focus on combat and
crazy characters made it look like Bioware looked at Gears of War too closely.

didymos1120 wrote...
Not sure what you mean by this.  That it's better when Casey or whoever
talks over a video?  Well, they did have videos for ME2 with various
devs providing commentary and teasers.  The one linked above, for
instance, or the N7 Dev Diary:

http://masseffect.bi...edia/video/294/

Or the "Enemies" video:

http://masseffect.bi...edia/video/109/

I'm not really seeing the drastic difference I'm supposed to here, except
for the fact that they seem to have had a significantly better budget
for the ME2 stuff and that they were assuming a certain level of
familiarity with the first game and the ME-setting in general.

I meant the live streams actually.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-mass-effect/715589

And the drastic difference is what I was trying to point out earlier. Too
much too soon. This time they started by showing us what is going
on (earth under attack by the reapers) and the footag we've been shown
since wasn't  a bunch of people with metal issues, but understandable
reactions and actions that were the result of the invasion. You see,
back then ME2 wasn't out yet and Bioware has just been bought by EA.
Some of those trailers made it seem like Bioware had turned the game
into a shooter with interactve dialogue and dumbed down the character
interaction to cater to the typical shooter fan who wants to "jump right
into the action" without having to bother with anything else.
Silly in retrospective I know. Back then... well it was kinda
weird and when you look at how DA 2 turned out it wasn't completely
unjustified either...

TL;DR Version:

Maybe it's all in my head (hard to tell after over 2 years) but at least I am
not getting the weird impressions I got from ME2 at first that made me
want to kill Bioware's (/EA's) marketing department, so somethings gotta
be a little different right? [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

Also: Sorry about the typos and derailing the topic.

I'm a guy but I always like to see diversity too, most misandry (that people seem to think is in this thread) I see is on TV and some of it in films, but in mass effect there is no sexism either side IMO, so I dont know why some are trying to start arguements over said issue.

People feel the need to argue and complain. Funny, since this is supposed to be a purely positive thread.
