Well, it would really suck if she just performed a 75 foot jump and made a speech about the Maker and blood magic only to then say "Bye Hawke! Have fun wherever you go!"

Would've been nice if she didn't fight my Hawke who'd done nothing but support her, wasn't a mage, sister was dead and all mage companions was dead though. :/

All this non-association with magic is too suspicious.

- Orsino was originally not really supposed to be a boss battle if
you sided with the mages, though there would be a point where you
learned that he was bffs with Quentin. He kind of implied that you could
have then chosen to fight him, but basically that the Orsino battle was
not originally there. The only reason why Orsino turns is for gameplay
reasons. (They wanted another boss fight.)

We've gone waaaay off-topic but... do we know if Meredith was always supposed to be a boss fight or was that also thrown in for those who sided with the Templar? Relic tells me no.

That would've been better than the ending presented to tose who sided with the Templars. "You could be just like them, even more clever than Orsino..."  *attacks*  Come on....:pinched:  That was poorly written and executed.

They could have had her tell Hawke that she was going to leave Kirkwall and help the Templars deal with the mages, or that she would stay in Kirkwall and try to protect city.

Even if you sided with Orsino, he could assist you with Meredith and leave to help with the mage resistance in other parts of Thedas.

Doesn't mean these characters ever have to appear again or have substantial roles in future titles. :?

Are you implying that fighting her didn't suck?

I'd prefer that to be honest. So I can reach the ending faster.

The only thing about the battle I liked was that she was able to make makeshift golems. In terms of lore, that was fascinating. Gameplay wise, it was tedious as f*ck.

Also, I'd prefer the game made a lick of sense sense. But that's asking for too much isn't it?

Okay, for a minute I thought you were Dave of Canada. Same avatar and all that.

And believe you me, I have an entire scenario for how Orsino and Meredith should've been handled in DAII all in my head.

EDIT: I'd also like for Bioware to retcon Orsino's death for pro-mage people. That was just the epitome of idiotic writing.

"We wanted another boss fight!"

could've had that boss fight without pulling an incredibly cheap maneuver

Tbh, I feel the golems / super jump are exaggerations from Varric. The entire encounter feels exaggerated and when you're looking around the battlefield, you see Zevran / Nate Howe and other characters which make no sense being there.

Nathaniel's presence makes some sense if you have a Warden sibling, but otherwise it doesn't if your sibling is dead/Templar/Circle mage.

Perhaps too much snark from me caused it to malfunction?

Well pro-tip, 87.5% of what I say is snark. The rest is slightly more serious or flirtatious snark.

much better Image IPB.

I'm tempted to call your new avatar David Hawkelhoff. Don't know why. I just randomly thought of that name and can't get it out of my head, and he doesn't even look like David Hasselhoff

Well not even if you had a warden sibling if you did the save Nathaniel thing for his sister ~ not only is he grateful to you but he has a vested interest in the safety of Kirkwall being that his sister and nephew live there...

Doesn't explain Zev if Isabella run off with that stupid book......

I'd hate it for the Mages to get away with Orsino and Templar to have, well... nobody. It's hard to think of any way to make Meredith survive considering the entire ending is about her, it's just that everybody would probably side with the mages (if they weren't already) if they could save a more important figure.

Same reason why I have a Dark Ritual playthrough, though I'd never actually do it. It's simply for the future plot potential! Introducing Orsino's survival would leave more loose threads / cameo potential, which we all know people love (if this thread is any indication!)

Well Meredith had a real reason for going bonkers.  The lyrium idol can even make a dwarf totally disconnected from reality.  But more to the point, the plot demands that Hawke layth the smack down on the templars (even if s/he doesn't) so Meredith has plot armor.... and the insides are covered with cyanide-coated barbed wire.  Honestly, Meredith's scene, while daft, makes more sense than what we pro-magers were treated to, and I shall share thustly:

Orsino:  So we gonna do this now or what?
Meredith:  No.  Gather your forces.  Over there, in that room that has only one entrance, a highly exposed hallway where you can bombard my lemmings of men with AE hellfire.
Orsino:  Errr?
Meredith:  Go, mage!

----------

Hawke:  Well, that went rather well don't you think?
*Every mage in the room, save Orsino, drops dead for no apparent reason despite a templar not getting within 15 foot of one*
Orsino:  WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!!
Hawke:  What the Flemeth?!
Orsino:  I'll show her blood magic!
*Orsino casts Shapeshift: Roseanne Barr*
Hawke ...  I hate my life.

I don't think Nathaniel's sister and nephew live there considering land in Amaranthine was given back to the Howes. I think they were just visiting there, since Nathaniel had been in the Free Marches (specifically Kirkwall) before. Vacationing and all that.

Honestly, I didn't think that the Meredith battle mechanics were unforgivably ridiculous. Just fighting her with a bunch of templars would have been kind of boring. I thought that her being influenced/controlled by the red lyrium was lame because it seemed to mean (to me) that she didn't actually have any semblance of a justifiable reason for her unyielding stance. If it is never explained why the red lyrium makes people insane and gives them crazy powers, I'll be disappointed.

Well I did ponder that but then back in Awakenings when you had to make the choice to save either Amaranthine or the keep, Nathaniel is all for burning the rest of Amaranthine to the ground, which I doubt he would have given his sister was living there.  So I assumed from that, that they may have fled to and were living in Kirkwall...

Orsino could have been killed by templars during the fight, regardless of whether you sided mage or templar. That way they still both die, but Orsino doesn't freak out for seemingly no reason.

Honestly, this might just be me, though I assume we've not seen the last of Meredith. Her statue body had an entirely new model created which was briefly introduced and never seen again, I doubt they'd put in all that work for a brief 10ish second scene where we never actually truly see it in a good position.

Wouldn't surprise me if a future DLC reintroduces it, maybe for research (assuming she isn't simply a burned out body and is actually something else) or an encounter (maybe).
