That would've been better than the ending presented to tose who sided with the Templars. "You could be just like them, even more clever than Orsino..."  *attacks*  Come on....:pinched:  That was poorly written and executed.

They could have had her tell Hawke that she was going to leave Kirkwall and help the Templars deal with the mages, or that she would stay in Kirkwall and try to protect city.

Even if you sided with Orsino, he could assist you with Meredith and leave to help with the mage resistance in other parts of Thedas.

Doesn't mean these characters ever have to appear again or have substantial roles in future titles. :?

Well Meredith had a real reason for going bonkers.  The lyrium idol can even make a dwarf totally disconnected from reality.  But more to the point, the plot demands that Hawke layth the smack down on the templars (even if s/he doesn't) so Meredith has plot armor.... and the insides are covered with cyanide-coated barbed wire.  Honestly, Meredith's scene, while daft, makes more sense than what we pro-magers were treated to, and I shall share thustly:

Orsino:  So we gonna do this now or what?
Meredith:  No.  Gather your forces.  Over there, in that room that has only one entrance, a highly exposed hallway where you can bombard my lemmings of men with AE hellfire.
Orsino:  Errr?
Meredith:  Go, mage!

----------

Hawke:  Well, that went rather well don't you think?
*Every mage in the room, save Orsino, drops dead for no apparent reason despite a templar not getting within 15 foot of one*
Orsino:  WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN!!
Hawke:  What the Flemeth?!
Orsino:  I'll show her blood magic!
*Orsino casts Shapeshift: Roseanne Barr*
Hawke ...  I hate my life.

Orsino could have been killed by templars during the fight, regardless of whether you sided mage or templar. That way they still both die, but Orsino doesn't freak out for seemingly no reason.

*Hawke sits by, watching Orsino fight three Templar alone. Orsino gets stabbed*
Hawke: Orsino!
*Hawke runs up to Orsino as the Templar just stand there frozen in time*
Orsino: Hawke, you have to warn the others... they must... know of this day...
Hawke: I will, Orsino. The Templar will regret this day.
Orsino: And I helped your mother's killer.
Hawke: Wha?
*Orsino trollface*
*Orsino dies*

Honestly, this might just be me, though I assume we've not seen the last of Meredith. Her statue body had an entirely new model created which was briefly introduced and never seen again, I doubt they'd put in all that work for a brief 10ish second scene where we never actually truly see it in a good position.

Wouldn't surprise me if a future DLC reintroduces it, maybe for research (assuming she isn't simply a burned out body and is actually something else) or an encounter (maybe).

I think she turned completely into a Red Lyrium statue, fused to the very ground of the Gallows Courtyard. There, she remains as an ever eternal reminder of what happened on that day.

As much as that would've pissed me off I would've loved it.

That sounds like something Tevinter would do to punish their slaves.

I'm not sure about that, though. Do you really think someone would leave that statue un-attended?

I suppose it's possible.

"Return to the Gallows"  DLC, we'll have flashbacks and everything. We'll have to chase a Necromancer who'll keep reviving everything throughout the Gallows and the end boss is undead Orsino. In the end, you can decide to burn Meredith's corpse / not touch it / leave it for the poor people to eat.

The statue gets dropped off of the top of the Gallows into the ocean, despite it being fused to the ground. Because it's DAII.

Scenic.

I hope she's not turned into Red Lyrium fused to that spot. It'd permeate the whole area with an aura of contagious crazy.

Now I've reminded myself of the Orb of Confusion

She then floats to the Qunari homeland and is worshipped as a god. She finally breaks free from her statue form and her spirit possesses a Qunari. In her new Qunari body, she manages to get back to Thedas and hunt down Hawke. :bandit:

Only if the ship hits an iceberg.  An iceberg that was, for some reason, keeping an ancient evil imprisoned.

...  You know, this thread actually turned around pretty nicely.

It doesn't look exactly human, so it could be Red Lyrium. Reminds me a bit too much about Reaperfied Saren, though.

The statue would then contaminate the sea, create a race of mutated fish that would enslave the surface world in their never ending quest to find the Lady of the Lyrium who can bring life to the statue whom they worship.

The Qunari, upon realizing how idiotic Thedas is, discover that the Qun is better off without them and set sail for another continent.

IIRC, it actually looks a hell of a lot like the idol. Maybe the idol is actually small pixie people who were themselves turned into lyrium.

Meredith wasn't told that idolization should stop when you're trying to look like the thing you're worshipping.

Great I'll never unsee that. Now I'm thinking Meredith's indoctrinated. >_> Even if it makes zero sense.

Though...s it does look like the idol...wonder if it's some sort of cycle?

Actually, the idea of a lost sentient race of lyrium people sounds kind of cool. Unless that's what spirits/demons are.
