Which actually just proves my point. The same justifications used to slag Arrival are all praised for LotSB.

Disappointed reviewer: "Arrival plays out like big dumb action film." While Lair is complete with buildings being bombed, "car chase" sequence (with funneled, on-rail gameplay) and even a contrived shoot-the-hostage scene. Sounds like just about every blockbuster action film to me.

It's because they expected Arrival to be the same as LotSB.

While I agree that LotSB was better, I thought Arrival was pretty good. The Reapers are finally arriving and everything. Compared to LotSB, which did little to nothing to advance the story. It was more: "This and this and this happened. You know that now."

I agree, Arrival doesnt get the credit it deserves. I thought they did a pretty good job, all things considered.

In no particular order:

1. Mordin's loyalty mission
2. Arrival
3. Overlord
4. Virmire
5. Ilos and the end game
6. Grunt's pick up mission
7. The derelict reaper

Probably more I'm forgetting but those are my highlights :)

You see, that's the problem. The Reapers arriving should have been a huge event. It should have been at least as big and cinematic as LOTSB. It was a huge let-down.

Someone at Bioware or EA doesn't know what theyr'e doing.

ME3 is all about the Reapers arriving. I'd rather a momentous event like that get a whole game dedicated to it, rather than a DLC.

Arival could/should have been better regardless.
When you read a book with an introduction chapter before chapter 1, generally it has a big hook or two, and is more or less exciting, not just "another chapter".

Maybe, but let's not forget that Arrival was ME2 DLC, not ME3 DLC. It was an epilogue for ME2, not a prologue for ME3.

Shep's trial interruption with the Reaper attack on Earth will be the grand opening Saphra is looking for.

My biggest gripe with Arrival was the lack of four eyed helmets for the Batarians. That really hurt the immersion.

I suspect you're not serious, but I have seen people complain about this.

ME1:  Virmire and Noveria.  Hard to tell which is better, but they were both great, multi-staged missions with great characters, decisions,

Honorable mentions:
I Remember Me:  Most touching side misson in the game
UNC:  Major Kyle:  information about Torfan.  One of the few missions you can talk your way through instead of shooting.
Bring Down the Sky  Nice DLC mission.  Heavy use of Mako, which I like.  Balak makes for cool villain.

ME2:   Collector Ship  Actual information-gathering about the enemy!  Even if it was an obvious trap.  One of three missions where we actually face the Collectors.

Honorable mentions:  Tali:  Treason.  Combination of dialogue and combat, with multiple outcomes possible.
Legion:  A House Divided.  Morally grey choice with possible repercussions in ME3
Dossier: The Professor The only recruitment mission that ties into the Collectors.

But I am serious. It made the whole pack look rushed and done on the cheap.

Totally. I don't know why they cheaped out on batarian helmets when they had four-eye helmet models for the rest of the game.

Wait what.

That doesn't excuse it bub. They could have at least gone the BDTS route and made them helmetless, which is what they actually did for the main game.

His upper eyes are visible and he can clearly see with them while wearing that helmet.

Favourite mission is the Ilos/Endgame from Mass Effect 1. While it doesn't have a lot of dialogue, it is easily one of the most cinematic missions in the whole series. LOTSB is easily a close second for me though.

ME1-Illos-Love the area. You feel the need to hurry the hell up and get that damn door open, then the jump through the conduit
ME2-LotSB-What's not to love? The best banter in both games. Car chase scene where Liara is a back seat driver. LOL. Killing another Spectre. Finding a new species that looked quit nasty and mean.

Its the last mission in Mass Effect 2 for me how good it felt to have everyone survive and in the finale cut-scene well actually all the way through the mission my heart was pumping as fast as it could and the music was so good I bought the soundtrack I loved it cant wait for ME3

I'd have to say my pentultimate favourite mission from the series so far is the citadel post ilos.  I still get chills when the elevator stops and Shepard, determined as ever, yells out, "Suit up!  We're going outside!"  then proceeds to blow the glass and you get that great view of the citadel.  Plus everything after it too.. running up the tower seeing Sovereign in the distance.  Just so awesome.

Other missions that are memorable and great:

Virmire - so many decisions, talk with Sovereign
Ilos - Vigil plus the music.  Let's also not forget Pressley and Williams arguing about the landing zone.  Just reinforced how stressful and important the mission was.
Eden Prime - right from the get go, when they make you pan the camera to look in the direction Shepard is facing and you catch that sun in your eye.
Arrival - great content, they did a lot of things right.  I just missed my squad.
Suicide Mission - this is probably the best mission after the citadel run at the end of ME1.  It also saved me from being disappointed with ME2 on my first playthrough.  Since then, I've come to love ME2 for what it is.

Still, Citadel run at the end of ME1 is the best for me.  Most memorable.  The final confrontation with Saren, the chaos and battle raging outside, deciding if the council should live or die, or focus on Sovereign (my first choice on my first playthrough ever).. then the ending as well.  Climbing out of the wreckage.. pure glory.

1. Citadel tower.
-The art, the sounds, the music, and many different types of combat packed into one mad dash. Seeing Sovvy up there stomping away, and I'm running TOWARD it? Floored me first playthrough.

2. Ilos
-The music nailed it, but combat on multiple tiers (why are they making such a big deal about this in ME3? It was already there 5 years ago...), hacking Geth to fight for you, with the great artwork on the entire planet and lost civilization thing going on. Nerdgasm.

3. Feros
-Thorian Creeper Ping Pong. Nuff Said.

He's the sole exception and he wasn't a two eyed helmet wearing human with a Batarian voice like the ones in Arrival.

You need to quit shilling for Bioware . I know those checks from Priestly,Walters or whoever it is are tempting but it isn't cool:wizard:

Mass effect 1:
Mass Effect 1 is pretty hard to decide for me. On one have you have Virmire which is just absolutely stunning- the most beautiful place in the game so far (Including ME2). But there's also Noveria, which is fantastic in terms of missions and story (Atleast until you make it to the quarantined area- after that I find it gets a bit sloppy). Finally, there's climbing the citadel; which has just an incredible, epic feeling with it. All of them have their merits, and I'm hard pressed to decide a winner.

Mass Effect 2:
Well, that's a lot easier for me- Mordin's loyalty quest by a mile. Story has always been important to me, and Mordin's loyalty quest is just perfect, hearing Mordin's moral struggle and rational- that they really did try find alternatives, how hard they worked to avoid actually killing the Krogans. Absolutely a fantastic mission with no competition by a mile in either game.

Also, I thought suicide mission was pretty... Bad. Again, story is important. And giant human reaper? Well, sigh. Also I thought the tension was a lot higher on both other occasions of boarding a collector ship.
