Has anybody here ever done a build where they used the Mattock as a close quarters weapon on the infiltrator? The way im thinking about using it is the same way you would a shotgun, use cloak, sneak up close range to a enemy and shoot them like that. The way im thinking is I can deal as much damage as I could with a shotgun if I fire off two or three shots quickly with it but it would be a lot more versatile (plus I just like using the Mattock), but im wondering if its worth passing up on the Widow shotgun training to get it.

What I do is make a save before making that choice, to try out the choice in a few places, to see which weapon or training I prefer.
And the Mattock is an interesting option to use, paired with the Viper and your other weapon preferences, I'd say give it a shot if you don't want to take the Widow or shotgun training.

Sure it works. I would personally prefer a shotgun, and if it's cheese you want you can do unholy damage with charged GPS + Cloak, without even breaking Cloak.
But the Mattock will also work well. It's not really worse than picking the Widow either. That's a matter of taste.

If you're going to play sneaky cqc, then for me shotgun would be the preferred choice.
Of course you've got more versatility with the mattock, but need to consider how it can be used with the infiltrator's power set for efficient use. The cryo/agent build demonstrates one possibility very well.
