One thing from Gears I'd definitely like is revive, I've always hated that if you go down but your squad is up it's still GG, yet if any of them die you can get em back up anytime you want, I don't like the lack of power your squad has in that regard.

I'd prefer increased defensive options as opposed to squadmates reviving Shepard.

rofl since when was boarderlands an rpg? thats a straight up shooter with leveling and a randomized loot system lol.

barely had any story to speak of. all the characters were just "pick up mindless MMO style quests here".

Apperently you only revently started playing rpgs, because the "pick up mindless mmo style quests here" are basicaly what rpgs where in the 80's and early 90's, a subgenre called dungeon crawling. Now Borderlands did this all, "going into dungeons, killing everything and picking up loot" just like it was done in the old days, cept it was guised as a shooter.

Story =/= RPG

You DO know that Diablo had some complaints initially that it wasn't a true rpg (for obvious reasons), and Borderlands plays more like a fps-Diablo-with-guns than say Might & Magic, Eye of the Beholder, or the Elder Scrolls...

When I play Gears of War I'm always trying to use my cloak and when I play Mass Effect 2 I'm always trying to roadie run.

The only problem I had with Gears of War gameplay was the fact that there wasn't seperate buttons for cover and roll. That's about it. Even the reload system was innoative. Those two games they have released are great. Like before, I put gameplay before story, even when the story is interesting enough to keep attention.

I don't give a damn about multiplayer, I only care about Horde and Co-op by the way...
So yeah, ME-series could learn something from it's gameplay aspects. Good thing the game does seem to be doing just this with the 3rd installment. :)
