Mm, Earthborns do have a very isolated appeal to them. Paired with War Hero it makes for a classic "rose up from nothing" story. I like it. :D

I really like that aspect of it too. :D

Like I said, Im a reluctant nihilist.

In a way you'll more easily understand..... Thane hates to kill (my gun did it!) yet he continues to do so because it is all he knows. I watch the news and all I see is death, war and murder caused being brought upon Humanity by itself. there is good in us, but not as much as there should be.

No.
A nihilist wouldn't believe there is good or evil or that anything is inherently good or evil.

You're not a nihilist.

Read "The Giver", it's a great book

I read this when I was 12.
T'is a good book.

Sorta reminds me of the movie, Equilibrium in a way, with a possible ending of Repo Men, but I could be wrong with that impression.

Repo Man was just you're typical evil corporation... which wins in the end. Just like real life corporations. That first one sounds interesting, I might watch it. Oooooh, Cristian Bale is in it.

I believe what you are refering to is the mafia.

Yeah, I realize that's what I am leaning to but basically, anything but a bunch of thugs.  Even if it's a gang like the one Statham's character is in with Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or something like the Wild Bunch from Rocknrolla I would be more happy with.

Why not a street gang, though? It's not unheard of for gang-members who want out to use the military as a means to do so. They would also be more willing to accept someone without a past, while the more organized groups would want to know everything about a person's parentage before accepting them. Organized groups would also be less willing to let someone who knows about their operation get away by just joining the military. It would be too much of a risk for the mafia.

Actually, I wonder if the Colonist background will be brought up in Shepard's trial. You know, history with batarian slavers and all.

Interestingly enough, both the war Here and colonist backgrouds deal with Batarians to some extent. Sole Survivor doesn't though, since there the threat is closer to home.

War Hero deals with batarians too? Wow, makes me want to go for a Colonist/War Hero now. xD Shepard must really hate batarians then. And it would make Arrival a lot more controversial.

Wild Bunch and the group from Lock Stock are not mafia types.

Also, when I think street gangs as an American all I can picture is a group of kids in baggy clothes "flashing" hand signs and swearing/dropping racial slurs all the time.  And I don't want that mental image showing up in Mass Effect.

War hero defended Elysium against the Batarian-funded Skylian Blitz. Ruthless chased down the Batarians to Torphan and slaughtered them. Sole survivor got ambushed by a Thresher Maw and was the only one who got out alive.

A ruthless Colonial seems to also fit the profile of hating Batarians.

People should just hate Batarians in general.  Outside of the one Zaeed captured (which honestly I only felt sorry for cause Zaeed shot them) and the sick one you meet when you go to get Mordin have ANY Batarians been nice/not wanting to kill you?

They're the first choice I made the first time I played ME1, but I ended up not liking it. aving a Shepard who has "issius" or is mentally unstable is not an appeal to me. Im a psychology student, so stuff like that really matters to me. With that combo I always fear Shepard will have a mental breakdown and shoot up the Normandy.

I grew up in Houston, and I am familiar with gangs enough to say that the mental image you have is at least sometimes true. I cannot say the same for the Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels(love that movie) gang that you are thinking of. If someone has IRL experience with that kind of thing, I'll grant you that, but I would rather the Earthborn gang to be more realistic than romantisized.

Granted, they probably would not hold to all the same conventions as modern gangs, particularly in terms of clothing, but the general attitude should be kept, IMO.

I'll just add that the structure of gangs depend on where you live.

The West Coast stuff is different to the East Coast, and where I live, it's related to specific neighborhoods.

In ME, the "Reds" were just a gang of poor street kids who got together to survive. After Shepard left Earth with the Alliance the Reds evolved into a criminal group supporting racism towards alien races and terrorism.

I actually never talked to him.  I always had so much money from going through ME1 that I never went for store discounts for some stupid reason.

The only thing I know about Ruthless is that Shepard got a lot of people killed; I didn't know batarians were involved. This is a very interesting bit of info. Thanks!

Yeah, seems like it. I have a Colonist/Ruthless Renegon run that I haven't quite finished yet. Now I feel more than inclined to do so. xD I can be certain that Shepard absolutely hates batarians in this one. Should be fun!

The fact that it has potential to mess with Shepard's head is what makes the combo appealing to me. You don't see Shepard break down, but you know it's a thought that haunts him/her constantly. It says something about Shepard's mental fortitude to get the job done despite the psychological scars.

But that's true, it's a breakdown waiting to happen. With ME3 "showing a more human side to Shepard" that might not be far off from the truth. Only if you choose to pursue that route, of course. ;)

It wasn't the first encounter if the whole thing was a Cerberus experiment.
