 God I'm about to throw it out the window (RAWR!).

I downloaded NW2 from Direct2drive.com today. I installed it and happily opened it... only to see an error message : "Could not find any compatible Direct3D device. The application will now exit." Obviously, said application then exits.

Things I've tried :

- Installing most recent drivers for my graphic card;
- Installing less recent drivers for my graphic card;
- Installing most recent DirectX version (11);
- Installing less recent DirectX version (9);
- Looking up in DirectX's configuration if Direct3D was enabled (YES, GODDAMMIT!);
- Restarting the computer between each and every step.

My graphic card is a "Intel® Q35 Express Chipset Family", whatever that means. I only installed the game without any expansion (wanted to test before adding the expansions) and updated it. The autorun window appears, but when I click "Run" and he tries to load the game, it crashes as previously explained.

What should I do? I've tried every suggestion on the other forums, and my graphic card is above the recommended specs (286 Mo). I have no freaking idea what I could do now.

Thanks for the help!

One thing it probably means is that you don't have an actual graphics card.  You have what is called "integrated graphics."  This is not a good thing for gaming, in fact (to the best of my knowledge) no integrated graphics have been officially supported by NWN2.

More here:  tech forum

The ultimate solution is to get an actual dedicated graphics card.  You really don't need a high end one (mine is older than the game, for example).  But you do need one.

You need an actual graphics card, not a woefully underpowered one thats integrated on your motherboard. What iRaps said, just about any card you buy will do. I had a card I bought several years ago for$100 that played fine (Ati 4770).

 I... see. I bought this computer used recently, and didn't know that this was even possible :lol: Allright, then, I guess it's graphic card time!

At least now I know what's the problem! :P You made my day, good sirs, thank you for your prompt responses. Not knowing what was the problem was killing me!

A word of caution.  Not all links in the chain of retail delivery are equal.  Storefront operators traditionally not only overprice video cards, they will also keep really old and obsolete products at their really way back prices, to make any "20% off" offer look good.  Buy from an eTailer, and don't buy anything more than four years old (don't buy any Radeon HD 2n00 card, nor any Geforce 8n00 card, especially not an 8400.  If you buy an old one, the HD 3450 was not very good then, and very weak for this game, same for the Geforce 205 / 210 / 310 and Geforce 9300.
