Kaidan was alone while Ashley had a lot of salarians with her. Nothing personal against Kaidan but saving many is more important than saving just one.

actualy - whoever was left at the bomb had Normady's marine detachment with them, so it was saving Salarians vs saving Normandy Marines (you can see couple of soldiers with guns guarding the site while whoever is left at the bomb is arming it, before you leave for AA tower).  in adition, you know if Kirrahe is dead or alive long before the bomb is taken down to the site.  because  if you don't help out the distraction teams well enough, Kirrahe dies and whichever VS you sent with Salarians takes over coordinating them.

just wanted to clarify that.

to me at least reasoning always came down to - will the distraction team be able to protect the AA gun long enough to keep it from reactivating and shotting down the normandy, vs will the bomb team be able to protect the bomb long enough to make sure that Geth don't get to it and deactivate it  (its jury rigged in a hurry and they are machines based off technologicaly gifted race, not to mention they can think and process information a LOT faster then organics).

Male Sheps saved Ashley twice when romancing...Once to stay faithful and the other to cheat, otherwise saved Kaidan. Femsheps saved Kaidan twice when roamncing, same reasons.

It was a while since I played ME! but I realy don't remember anyone but Kaidan guarding the bomb at his end but you do have a point She Hulk, it is more complicated than I made it look. We should make decisions hard and complicated to enjoy the story more.

This poor bastard:

Image IPB

You can save him from the juggernaut lobbing rockets at him if you're fast enough and draw their fire.  There's only one salarian at the tower, too.  I get the impression that each represent the "team" of salarians or marines at either site, so as not to bog down the engine.

Also, if I recall correctly, whoever's at the bomb says "We can't hold them off," implying (to me at least) that there's a team there.

Okay, I admit defeat. There are a lot to save on both locations.

I always save Kaidan. I like him better and all my Sheps, males and females, get along better with him :)

Its weird to see people save one 100% of the time, if there are any differences between having one or the other in ME3, your missing out. Even if you hate the character, I would think you would save them once, just for the sake of variety or experimentation.

I don't feel like I'm missing out.  Any choices I made were choices I made.  And as such, I have a vested interest in seeing how they play out.  Of course if I want to experience the series with different results then I have ME and ME2 or even the save editor to import any decisions I feel I want to experience.

Ultimately though, as I said before, I made choices that I wanted to see play out over the course of the series.  There's no way I can miss out on anything I decided I don't want and/or care for.

I have 4 playthroughs done now.

3 saved Ashley, 1 saved Kaidan.

I haven't really done a playthrough where I did not save or romance Ashley. Just didn't like her a lot and plot wise, made more sense for her to sacrifice herself and redeem her family's name.

I used save editors to ensure that Kaidan romance DID NOT occur just in case (Stupid bug).

Personally I have only kept one Shep for transfer to ME3....ManShep/Paragon/Assassin Infiltrator/Unromanced...never kept the rest....he saved Kaidan.

Well, on all of my PS3 saves( even my femshep one) I save Ashley...if only because I like looking at her...

Since I now own the pc version of Mass Effect 1, i will probadly save Ash in my playthroughs here as well( though not because I romance her...planning to liaramance in all my playthroughs)...just because I like her better n find her more useful...where as kaiden is replaced almost immediately once Garrus, Wrex n Tali are recruited...Ash remains useful( even on my current soldier run).

I find Ashley annoying, but only in a vacuum. Compared to Kaiden, Ashley is an absolute joy to be around. Hence Kaiden dies every time.

Ash 9 out of 10 times why? Because she's a tank and on tactical bases well above kaiden and his wimpy biotics.

Except in ME1, biotics are so overpowered they are basically an instant win button.  Enemies can't hurt you while they're being lobbed back and forth in the air like volleyballs.

I always go for Ash to have a good soldier. Liara has the best biotics so Kaiden is disposable.

I sacrificed Kaidan on my first playthrough, because I was romancing Ashley. I sort of think of that one as my "official" Shepard -- a Vanguard, appropriately. Since then, I've done many more playthroughs, and the VS varies.
