If I wanted to run through Origins and Awakening again to put together a perfect play-through that would give me the best selection of quests with the best rewards, what would I have to do? The only thing I know for sure is that I would have to let Avernus live in the Warden's Keep DLC. What else would give me the best rewards?

Why that? If you let Sophia live, you can kill and loot her in DA2. There is no perfect DAO Game.

There are a lot of missions that I'm not getting. Some of those provide bonuses that can't be gotten anywhere else. For example, letting Avernus go triggers a mission in DA2 called Dark Epiphany. This mission has a potion that gives you an extra 2 Attribute Points, and that potion can't be found anywhere else.

I'm not asking from a Story perspective; I'm asking from a mechanics perspective, and since this particular board is dedicated to the mechanics of builds, I figured it would be the best place for this. What choices in Origins provide the best rewards in DA2 from a mechanics perspective?

- Keeping Zevran alive gets you the Murder of Crows quest in act 3. You can get the dagger Finesse & Isabela's final armour upgrade.

- Your decision on with the Architect changes the quest that triggers in DA2. If you kill him you get Fools Gold in act 2, if you let him live and Nathaniel also survives you get Finding Nathaniel in act 3. In Finding Nathaniel you should get Varric's final armour upgrade.

- If Bhelan is made king or Orzammar you get the Last of His Line quest in act 1. You get an additional reward at the start of act 2 ($ or a piece of armour) for completing this quest.

There might be more variances than that but I can't remember now.

There are a number of quests that give items, but I've no idea how those items compare, as I haven't managed to keep interest in the game long enough to complete even a single play-through (though I'm working on one now). I don't imagine they'd be amazing, though.

Frankly, the only must-haves are:

1. Spare Avernus so you can get +2 Attribute Points

2. Keep Nathaniel in the Grey Wardens during Awakening. This allows you to pick up an Armor Upgrade for Varric.

3. Let Zevran live. This allows you to get an Armor Upgrade for Isabela, as well as the Finesse dagger.

Other than that, you really just get some minor quests.

I recruited Nate, did all the upgrades in Awakening, but left him at Vigil's Keep at the end.  If I recall correctly the Awakening epilogue slides show that he was alive, but DA 2 treats it as if he didn't make it i.e. I did not get his Act III quest.  Console commands in DA2 did show that he was recruited.

If you want to get Nate's quest to fire normally in Act III in DA2, put him in your final party should you choose to save Amaranthine over Vigil's Keep.  If you save Vigil's Keep, I believe DA2 reads it as all the Awakening companions will survive and the quest will fire as normal.

I am still very annoyed at the devs for the way they tied Isabela and Varric's upgrades to the decisions you may or may not have made in previous games.  The upgrades belong in their respective personal quests, imo.  The decisions you made elsewhere should really just translate to whether or not you encounter x cameo or gain a follow up quest in this game.

The perfect Origins game is the one I played and all you other Origins players played, at best, fanfic.

The import decisions mostly impact you by offering more xp, gold, or both, and most of the impact is in Act 1. Some decisions reward useful items that can help different classes. If you have no idea how items compare, just look at what quests you open up and see which rewards are better. Tada!

Indeed. I did this for my last origins playthrough for maximum XP in DA2.
