*---------------------------------Problem
Description----------------------------------*
I have been getting random crashes that seemed common occurrence
for a lot of people, namely, random crashes during battle:
*Crashing during large, long battle, such as the Archdemon
Fight.
*Crashing when using magic such as Holy Smite , Mana Clash
(They are so powerful they crash your game), but it may occur when using any
magic/ability.
*Crashing when there’s loads of ability being used at once.
For me, turning core affinity to “1 core only” worked, but
my performance suffered (see my spec, they are barely mid-range). I searched desperately for solution and
stumbled across a long-sunken thread:

*----------------------------Usage-------------------------------------*
I downloaded the appropriate d3d9.dll (for me, ATI), and
placed it in bin_ship folder (note that there should not be an original file
there to be replaced, just put it in there). And when launch the game, force it
to use DX9 by using the “-dx9” (without the quotation marks) option. I’m no computer expert, I suspect that this
forces Daorigins.exe to run with this .dll file instead of the d3d9.dll found
in the systems folder.
*--------------------------Testing
Result--------------------------*
Well, I believe it worked for me. Whats better to test this
other than the final, rooftop battle on Fort Draken.
Before I copied this
.dll file into the bin_ship folder, there’s no way I can get through that
Archdemon fight without a crash. Since they fight is SO HUGE and the archdemon
will do a ‘mana clease’ sort of effect at intervals.
After I copied this .dll into the bin_ship folder, I managed
to get through that fight without crashing at all three times in a row. It
could just be that I’ve been INCREDIBLY lucky, However, during all these three
test runs, I’ve intentionally called the MAGE army to test its effect, and I
have 2 mages in my party itself, so imagine, 14 mages on the same map spamming
all sorts of different magic as well as our old good friend the Horlock
Emmisionery and of course the Archdemon.
Please give this a test, and see what you get. Different ppl
have different computers, but I think this is a simple, relatively risk-free
(especially comparing to re-install your system, or even flash your bios) fix
that could work.
