I don't think it will be like that. I'm thinking it will have multiplayer modes like a Horde mode or Deathmatch or something.

The first time it weas mentioned it was said it was going to be made of a handful of missions with a small group running parallel to the main story (could be wrong on that last one).

So it may end up as Kane & Lynch's MP which was actually the only good thing in that game. MP could also the reason that it is getting delayed a few extra months.

What's wrong with blaming the people who have the final say? If EA says a BW game has to be a certain way or else they won't publish it, then guess what, BW has to make it that way. To me, that logic is just fine. Also, BW thought about MP, then thought that it wouldn't work. Only now is it an issue, now that EA is involved.

First, let me say that Bioware has never said that MP wouldn't work. They have been thinking about how to implement it.

What's wrong with that? What's wrong with that is that it is not how it goes. At all. Publishers don't force developers to "my way or the highway!" as the developer can always go to another publisher.

no, not really. the thing thats making video games more mainstream and allowing the industry to get bigger, has always been the social aspect of playing with friends. if you cant play with friends its a anti-social hobby that gets less widely accepted as a whole.

you have to give Halo alot of credit for this. it became a HUGE game for people to play in dorms on college campuses accross the world. everyone would get involved int he games, people would have parties just sorta form around them as they were playing halo. i know cus ive been there.

there was a time, me and a couple friends were just playing halo with the door open, people walk by go "oh dude, you're playing halo, lemme have a go" people kept cycling in, after awhile there was like 40 people hanging out, people went on booze runs. it was a blast. could that have happened with a single player game? absolutely not.

It's not multiplayer that created more gamers, simple population increase did that, more teens less adults these days with aging populations. Attention spans dropped dramatically in last 20 years and parents got richer hence huge increase in sales in general which allowed more luxury goods to be sold (consoles are such goods btw as are games). To say it's bigger because of multiplayer is a stretch at best and a fallacy at worst. Stop claiming it as fact when your just making a random assumption.

The only real thing multiplayer has done is damage the RPG genre back when was Nes, Snes, Gameboy, Lynx, Mastersystem, Megadrive and many more system etc (purposefully haven't gone back further even though I was around prior to those listed for many years) ~RPGs were more popular because people wern't eroding their brains in death matches online cussing at each other shouting "hacker/cheat/boom headshot/griefing/lag switching/aim botting/ wall hacking" which in turn created a generation of angry emo gamers so obsessed with their e-peen and ego in FPS before moving to MMO such as WoW and taking their habits between the two genres. This multiplayer angry generation now hangs out on forums all over the internet looking for things to vent at.

whats wrong with CoD? i'm personally not that into it. i prefer battlefield over it.  CoD isn't my style of shooter, but they're very high quality games. they get a TON of undeserved hate from bitter internet trolls. sure, CoD is mindbogglingly popular, and its community has a ton of D-bags, but theres plenty of D-bags to go around, you're evidence enough of that.

honestly CoD is just todays quake. its a fast paced twitch shooter.

but hey dude, hate it cus its popular, it'll make you seem super cool. also be sure to say you hate facebook too! thats pretty popular too i hear!

Yeah, not if they're OWNED by the publisher. And Bioware is.  They're a division of EA.  They don't have the option of publishing elsewhere.

I hope that if MP is confirmed, we get a horde mode or something.

troll, we all know the only reason you typed that was to get a reaction, that or your a COD noob who thinks multiplayer and co-op are the greatest inventions to ever come to gaming...

*sigh*

Some people on these forums just aren't that smart...

"CoD noob"? hmm, ok buddy. be alittle more ignorant.
also, horde mode is a gears of war thing, not CoD...

and yes, multiplayer and co-op has been probably one of the biggest things pushing video games forward. without them video gaming would be a MUCH smaller industry and you wouldnt have games like mass effect at all.

I know horde is a gears of war only feature but Zombies, firefight, horde, come on its not that hard.... And using YOUR logic basically saying "Without MULTIPLAYER, SINGLE-PLAYER ONLY games like mass effect would not exist..." LOL im sorry but that makes NO sense there "buddy" And multiplayer is holding games BACK from being great stand alone single player only adventures like they used to be. Just a guess but are you new to gaming? :P

multiplayer is the thing driving the industry to higher numbers. the games that make people go out and buy consoles are the big name multiplayer ones, like the call of duties, and halos. single player games are also thriving because people want games to play on their own after they bought the console for the multiplayer games.

without multiplayer, significantly less console sales. without console sales, less single player game sales, less sales means less budget, less budget means less games. less games means less innovation. meaning stagnation.

not really a hard concept to grasp.
multiplayer isnt holding anyone back, gaming is bigger than it has ever been before. games on average are higher quality than ever before. its a fantastic time to be a gamer.

So basically more sales = better games? Black ops sold A LOT so its the best game of all time? Please alan wake sold horribly and it was a GREAT game, sides your whole analysis there was nothing more than false, opinionated, speculation, If anything the budge would RAISE to try and get more sales which would mean MORE great single player only games!!! I like your fictional industry better than the one we have now! :D

no, the reason RPGs were so prevelent back then was because of technology limitations and how multiplayer wasnt really possible.

if you wanna be the type of guy that over generalizes and says "people who play RPGs are smart and cool!" "people that play multiplayer shooters are dumb and stupid! HA!" then go ahead, makes you seem painfully ignorant and naive though.

personally, i enjoy all genres of games. well not sports games, i find those extremely boring, racing games too. i like action adventure, puzzle, RPGs, shooters, RTS, hell ive been known to indulge myself in some of those pretentious artisy fartsy indie games as well. alot of people are that way, actually i dont really know anyone that only likes one genre of game.

notice how all the biggest top selling games have a big multiplayer focus? WoW, CoD, Halo, Gears, ect. ect. its because thats whats pushing the industry forward. if there wasnt anything pushing it forward then we'd have stagnation, and no one wants that.

also, whats killing RPGs, is that they take a long time to develop, cost alot, and tend not to make alot of money.

Could be one (or more) of a few things:

* Literal co-op in the main campaign, with up to 2 people playing as your squadmates.  IMO not very likely at all, as ME is all about the player, and the other 2 would not be able to do anything while on the Normandy etc.

* Extra co-op missions with new characters running parallel to the main story.  Possible, though usually doesn't add much to the overall experience.

* Horde mode of some form.

* Straight deathmatch, capture the flag etc.

Hard to see how any form of competitive multiplayer will work, since there would be no pausing available.

they were high quality games.
are you saying extremely good graphics running at 60fps with a ton of stuff going on screen with a highly competitive multiplayer that runs silky smooth isnt high quality? just because you dont like it doesnt make it bad.
if they werent high quality games they wouldnt be making all the money that they do. they also sorta set the standard for finding the perfect control scheme for console shooters.

the worst you could accuse them of is being "samey" which is well, pretty damn true.

but the CoD games have extremely high production value to deny that is just stupid. im not even a fan of them and i can tell they're high quality games.

Just... Shut up.  Just shut the **** up.  Nobody cares about your pointless argument, so why don't you continue it with some messages instead of spamming the thread.  I came here hoping to see some info/intelligent speculation about what the multiplayer aspect (if there is multiplayer) might be.  Not listen to two people rage at each other.

Anyway, I'm not opposed to multiplayer.  It's not somthing I need or necessarily want, but if it is included, I'd give it a shot.  I'm not going to boycott the game because I'm under the impression that something cannot be good in anyway.  Who knows?  Maybe there's even a possibility that it could actually be... wait for it... fun.  Shocking revelation I know.  The only way I can see it working is through some sort of co-op survival gametype, or a separate co-op campaign, kind of like what Portal 2 did.  But you people here should really stop raging about things that they know NOTHING about.  Seriously, we have no info on this.  How can you even begin to form a logical opinion that anyone would have any respect for?

I hope this is not true on how they are talking about it all.

I do not want some whining lil kid joining me whilst kicking reaper arse going 'Why can't I call an Airstrike in like in Call Of Duty'

The only way I would accept co-operative is if it not the main campaign like it is in Gears Of War or Halo. Instead like Portal 2 which I felt is the best way to deal with a co-op on a game that is meant to be single player.

Either that or it could be a true online game with team death match etc but I do not think Mass Effect lends itself to that

yeah. RPGs are doing really bad lately because they dont sell as well, and they tend to cost more and take longer to make.

also RPG fans tend to be the most ungrateful out of them all. "OMG YOU DIDNT INCLUDE THE DIALOGUE CHOICE I WANTED!!!!!!!!" "omg you made the UI less cluttered and clunky? stop dumbing the game down!" ect.
