Hi community,

Like I stated above, I hope someone can help me. My System specs are:

HP DV 7-6021EG with a 2 GHz i7-2630QM and 6 GB RAM as well as 1 TB Harddrive and a AMD Radeon HD 6700M running with Windows 7 64 Bit. As far as I know this should be more than sufficient to run the game. Now I've tried most of the tricks:

- creating a blank SystemInformation.xml
- rebooting my laptop
- lowering settings
- running in compatibiity mode (Win XP SP 2 and 3)
- running in adming mode
- running in compatibility and admin mode

I would really appreciate some help. The game lags heavily from the start and I can not start up the configuration tool to actually try and see whether different setting would improve the performance as certain things can not be changed in the ingame video menu. Although it shoudl be noted that the JadeEmpireconfig.exe actually starts up (you can view it by using the taskmanager) but never actually is usable and has to be aborted via the taskmanager. I don't mind not using the config tool but it would at least be nice to be able to play the game lag-free so I would really appreciate any advise people can give me!

Have you checked if there's a driver update for your graphics card?

Congratulations, sir! You now have a machine that's completely up to date and many times more than capable of supporting Jade Empire. That and lag.

So any other ideas ;)?

I suppose the biggest bottleneck of your machine is the harddrive. Until quite recently I played JE on a machine whose stats were significantly inferior to yours, but there was no lag. The machine.did have two 7200 rpm drives as a RAID-0, though. You probably have a normal notebook drive with 5400 rpm, right? Maybe that's it. A ramdisk might make a difference then. That's a wild guess, though.

It's a Toshiba MK1059GSM and last time I checked (today ;)) it ran with 5400 rpm. What exactly is a ramdisk, where can I get one, what does it do and how would it effect my machine in general and how much might one cost? Sorry if these questions are a bit dumb but it doesn't ring a bell.

Part of your RAM would be partitioned off for use as a virtual hard drive. I would suggest moving the data, override, scratch and sound directories (almost 3GB) to the ramdisk. That would leave you with 3GB for the actual game, Windows, etc.

I'm not promising it will work. And it's been quite a while since I used that trick myself. You should ask about this in a dedicated hardware forum like Tom's Hardware e.g. If it is indeed a good idea, they should be able to tell you, what the most simple setup would look like...

I just read in another forum that JE is supposedly very sensitive to certain sound card settings. One poster mentioned Reverb as an effect that may cause lag. You should try *that* first, before you fiddle with more advanced stuff like a ramdisk...

To quote from another of my posts:

Also install or reinstall the latest AGEIA PhysX software. That cleared up my 4 FPS jagging and jerking gameplay.

I don't mean the Nvidia aquired version. I mean the verison before Nvidia buy out.

Well dunno what it is but after downloading PhysX 7.11.13 (to which your link is referring) and trying to start it up first my Virus scanner starts up and after getting it to actually allow the file to play I still get an error and my machine states that the .exe is not a permitted Win-32 application... any suggestions?

Huh? What? Since when do AMD Radeon cards support PhysX?

Well to the best of my knowledge before Nvidia Bought out Ageia in the spring of 2008, Ageia was a standalone physic's software for both ATI and Nvidia graphic cards.

The error is due to a 32 bit program trying to run on a 64 bit system.
Did you try running it in compatibility mode for MS XP SP3 32-bit?

The Wikipedia page says only Nvidia cards support PhysX.

As the first paragraph of the article says:
"developed by Ageia (which itself was acquired by Nvidia in February 2008"

Ok let me explain since we have gotten into talking apples and oranges.

AGEIA PhysX and Nvidia PhysX were two entirely different software's. AGEIA was generally considered to be the better of the two.

AGEIA's version came out in either 2004 or 2005 and left ATI and Nvidia scurring to find their own physics software. Making AGEIA the standard till Nvidia began to develop their own physics software  that would eventually be called CUDA (although that is not its function now). While ATI began to develop the Havok software.

****
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
When Nvidia aquired Ageia in 2008 they proceeded to use the AGEIA name on their own in house software with small near insignificant additions from the AGEIA version that increased the visual representation of the physics but usually at the cost of performance.
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
In 2006 Bioware stated that they would be implimenting the AGIEA technology into all future titles using the Eclipse Engine. A process probably implimented in the Jade Empire PC version which is a (modified version of this) due to the Special Editions' release on February 26, 2007.

I have been refering to the version of AGEIA's PhysX software before Nvidia bought them. The AGEIA sofware supported its own cards only but both ATI and Nvidia cards could easily be made to use its functionability.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

****= Implied.
I'm not stupid.
I easily read the actions going on behind the scene. Nvidia can't fool me on this.

Well actually I tried running it in Comp. mode but there is not option to run it in 32 bit... always gives me the same error.

@pecoes: any more suggestions or shall I try the Ram option?

No, sorry. I'm out of ideas. And just so we're clear: The ramdisk suggestion is a Hail Mary pass.
