I found awakening badly made by comparison to DAO and boring you start way with two much power and can wade though the quest with little thought or need for skill or tactics. The changes to crafting are tedious to craft runes. The characters lack charm and do not have the interactive abilty found in the original. .

I highly enjoyed all the DLC, and the Expansion. Having played through each over a dozen times I really feel it adds to the story of my Warden.
As for story and plot and Choice Flags to tranfer forward into DA2 and DA3, yes you are missing out. The whole story about the Architect in Awakening, The Resolution with Morrigan in Witch Hunt (Huge impact for future game plot). Golems is a fun little horror story itself.
Above all though, every ones tastes and opinions are their own. Don't let someone else decide whats good or bad for you. Make those choices yourself. You may like it or you may not either way your better for the experince. (And in this case more informed about the developing plot of the DA universe. It would be like being a Diablo fan and never reading the novels that explains why everything is the way it is)
I pulled up your account info and see you have not registered your game to your account yet. You should do that to unlock additional features on the board.
My personal suggestion though is to pick up the Ultimate Edition for whatever version your using. This includes the Origenal Game+Expansion and all the DLC. For a modest price, otherwise you will have to buy everything seperately for much higher then you would the UE.

Unfortunetly as is the common trend now with Dragon age titles, some people will absoluty love it and some will despise it to no end. Usualy the later though expect an entirely new and differant game then the Original from a expansion for some odd reason usualy.

Thank you again
You are welcome.
Though on further contemplation.
Alot of the nay-sayers wanted Dragon Age 2 from the Expansion and wanted Dragon Age 2 to be more like a expansion of the origenal. Very confusing, no wonder the only way they can try to get their dislike across is by ranting it at everyone they come across at full volume like they have to compensate for something. Sounds suspiciously like Fox News kind of "journalism".
