Good Day.
my pc is ancient. especially my CPU. but somehow i still manage to run newer games like ME1/ME2/Last Remnant/Bioshock1-2 etc - almost to perfectly.
intel 3.0 ( runs on hyper-threading : emulating 2 cores )
2gb ddr2
nvidia 9600 512mb
xp 32bit
no overheating, no overclocking.
Problem is that DA:O has unspeakable lags and slow downs while sound effects is on. It looks like my CPU cant keep up processing massive sound amounts. Should i turn of sound effects, like footsteps, rain sound, combat sound etc( but not dialogue and music ) everything runs smooth and nice close to 60 fps without slowdowns. First I encountered this problem while trying to run DA:O on my native onboard realtek card. Then I specially bought dedicated realtek sound card. Problem still persists.
Funny thing is that bioware seems to fixed this issue with DA2. im running DA2 on dx9 full high with enabled vsync&AA&-Filtering via Nvidia Inspector + with sounds on - and no problem. couldnt really figure out what to do with it. should i post directx- log? or is this issue common amongst other users?
Dragon Age Sound Effects Problem please help

DAO is particularly hard on the CPU, more-so than most games, which may be why you are having difficulty with DAO and not others. The game engine seems to have been streamlined somewhat for DA2, which may be why you aren't having as many problems with it. If your audio drivers are up to date (Download the drivers from realtek. The stock ones that Windows installs are awful.) you can try checking the "force stereo sound" option in the options menu. I know it says it is for headphones, but it resolves a lot of odd audio bugs for no clear reason. After that, I'm afraid your only real option is to turn off sound effects.

thanks for fast reply friend. i will try that.
ps. should i set affinity to only one core? - but if ill do that it would mean that DA:O would work only on 1.5htz and not 3.0... mine processor is not entirely dual core, it just emulates the behavior, splitting 3.0 in half.

It may have issues with the emulation (I was using AMD chips when that Intel chip came out, so I have no idea how efficient the emulation is), but the game itself does fine with two cores. It has issues with more than two cores, but plays fine with just two.
