Lol - yeah  okay sure... Play  Final Fantasy Tatics, Front Mission(any of them) ,    any of the Shin Megami Tenshi games. Demon Souls, Catherine,  Vagrant Story etc

This  whole notion of Console gamers  losing interest because something is not "button mashing" is complete and utter  BS.

That's true in my nephew's case, but then again, he's 15 (and only plays shooters). :D

Not true in my case, and OMG, I loved Demon's Souls. That is one of the most maddening, difficult, awesome, and satisfying games ever. Also totally loved the Persona series.

As shooter player my self those require thinking as well  undstanding blind spots on a map, where are good places set up, how to move around the map, when to move.  When you think about the average shooter player taking in alot and making a split second  choice on how to react to a given situation. Also conditions on the map  are constently changing.

Even a game like  Devil May Cry, God of War or  Ninja Gaiden - play them on the lower difficulty  and its pretty easy.  Normal can be challenging but not impossilbe but put these on hard and lord help you.   DMC 3 normal was brutal for some people, Normal was the Japanese Hard mode here in the States  I remember the Review in EGM   one of the reviews gave it a  7 because it was too hard on normal that made me laugh.

THe Persona series still has some of the most challenging normal battles i have faced... some of them  I just run from especial if my party is not set up right and  enemies  exploit my party weakness.

What about plugging your PC to your HDTV so you can sit on your couch and then plugging your x360 controller to your PC so you dont have to worry about your keyboard ?

Done that  matter fact had to learn to play  Megaman  X4  on a keyboard cause I could not get the controller  work just right...

But the really point is that   this  crazy notion that   console RPG  players are some how have ADD and  grasp complex RPG and tactis bogus.  The games that I named some the most challenging RPGS one can find and two  are from the  PS One era.

I loved Devil May Cry (despite the admitted button-mashiness of it) and God of War. Hated Ninja Gaiden - mostly because I got tired of having my arse handed to me. Ever play Resistance (PS3)?

Oops, didn't mean to derail the conversation. We should probably get back on topic...

How would you know how bad Harry Potter was if you never made it past page 1?

The first page is the first impression the writer can give to the reader. Just compare the beginning of da2 and the beginning of dao.

Oh I'm with you on Dragon Age, my only point was I'm not sure you can judge the whole of Harry Potter on less than a page. I'm no Potter lover, never read them but the films are fairly decent from 3 onwards.

The beginning of DA2 was horrible but I still think you need to give it a bit more time before writing it off, in this case the rest of the game was just as bad but I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't made it half way through chapter 3 before giving up on it.

Because it is horrid. It lacks the depth and love of DA:O.

And yes, this forum has seemingly had several other threads that address this. The bottom line: EA rushed the gameand wanted to appeal to a more immature audience. Which is fine, only if they didn't sell it off to DA:O fans of different expectations and buried the course of deep Bioware games.

This here is a good thread: http://social.biowar...1/index/7669134

Ah, I was wondering when we'd get to the "game doesn't appeal to me so it's for dumb people" argument.

Hmm... I might have used the wrong word here. In no way am I saying anyone who likes this is dumb.

First off, people who are partly immature don't make for people dumb. Secondly, with what other word would you describe the general direction and style of the redone franchise? Just look at the art-work beside the forum pages...
Thirdly, yes, everyone including me is immature sometimes. I love meself an occasional less-complicated, less-mature game. But this game made all things much simpler and flashier, thus ruining my hopes that got up by DA:O.

I will never buy another Bioware game again, DA2 convinced me of that. I am spending hour upon hour with Morrowind awaiting the release of Skyrim. Take your Bioware games and get stuck by a fence looking at the horizons you will never be able to venture in Bioware's tripe, while I roam freely in the beauty of Tamriel. What jokes Bioware has put out compared to the visionary, free-form exploration intensive games of Bethesda. Good night and good riddance Bioware, you suck.

It has its flaws, but I find it better than Origns myself. (Oh the Heresy!) Its mainly your CRPG crowd that wanted DA:O-2 or BG 4 that are the ****ers. Most of us" poor unwashed and lacking in fine taste" console kiddies seemed to rather enjoy it, and now its anti hype has died down its selling pretty well by most estimates. Oh well I won't be looking at this thread again as I know it will go down hill. Vocal Minorities always are very vocal on this site.

Sandbox game vs. character/party driven RPG.

Yeah. Epic.Fail.Comparison.

And after the utter trainwreck called Oblivion, my love for TES is standing on very shaky legs.

oh, it IS the complete opposite to DA2..... and that is why it's Amazing.

The games have as much in common as DAO and Morrowind do. Never understood the comparison at all.

Actually, ... I really did want a DA:O2. They had all the tools in place to make one, but instead they changed everything to make a completely new game and threw DA in the name to get more sales.

"We" as in people who disliked the game, not everyone.

And yes, the whole COD crow dumbing down stuff is equally as bad - me and my mate have played plenty of shooters and yet we're intelligent and surprisingly enough, not drooling idiots.

Rarely do I feel the need to be rude, if i did, the response would be far nastier. Although it wouldn't descend into swearing.

Considering I played Origins on the console initally and liked it, but thought DA2 was poor. I am simply the polar opposite, I don't consider platform an indication of intelligence. As to TES Oblivion I too thought it wasn't a great game, rather mediocre, as such whilst Skyrim looks impressive, I will wait and see whether Bethseda delivers. Indeed, my opinion is much the same of the Dragon Age IP, I consider, DA2 poor, the only time I have succumbed to marketing and I regret it, usually I research things more. Yet, I do not know the direction the IP will take, so I remain wary of any future instalments.

Looking at the game objectively, there are several flaws, such as the level reuse, and wave implimentation.  How much those things bother you may differ, but they are generally accepted as problems, and Bioware has taken note of them.

For the rest, it's totally subjective.  I hate that companion customisation is largely gone.  I hate how the story plays out in Act 3 which makes me feel like I've been playing a chump.  I dislike how combat feels more stylised and "extreme" etc.  But these are personal prefrences, and many of the things that bother me about DA2 are things that other players love.  Which is cool.

The problem is that Bioware seems to have created a sequal which has divided the fanbase in regards to it's merits.

I'm Guessing that some of the comparisons come from the fact that both Games have a heavily political and personal theme, that are more action packed than their Prequels, and just making an attempt to expand their audiences a bit, although The Witcher 2 did it better(i have seen literally HUNDREDS of people who liked Witcher 2 and didn't liked Witcher 1), particullarly by changing combats.

...Or it could simply be Because The Witcher 2 is superior to DA2 in every single way and people just wanted to use as an excuse to bash it(DA2) even more, especially Origins fans, by rubbing it in people´s faces.
