Okay, I know how to play a Vangaurd but I do need help with one thing. WHat Weapon should I choose on the collecter ship. So the Claymore looks good but it fire a little to slow for my taste, ARs are good but I already have an SMG, and SRs looks pretty good but the Vangaurd is up close and personal and there are also AR's and the Claymore to choose from.
Which weapon should I choose?

Claymore works well if you charge someone and have it equipped. That way you can blast 'em at point blank range with it. That's the only time I really use it since it's slow like you said, but it is powerful close up.
I would take Claymore over anything else.

My preferred Vanguard is a Eviscerator/Viper combo, for all the times when you either can't charge or need to thin the herd some before you charge. I imagine the Mattock(if you have it) would also work extremely well in this and also bring a good up close weapon in which you can take advantage of the broken fire rate during slowmo with Heavy Charge.
So either go SR or AR and use the Eviscerator or follow the herd and go Claymore.

I will probably go for the Claymore just because I've never used it, but on my next Vangaurd playthrough I will use the Eviserator/Incisor combo.

Please don't ever use the Incisor. It sounds cool because it shoots three bullets at once, but its super low ammo means you run out way too quickly. The Incisor is the best sniper rifle for squadmates for 2 reasons: they have infinite ammo and they are freakishly accurate with getting all three bullets to headshot. Shepard usually will miss the third and possibly the second headshot in the burst because of the stagger animation npcs have when shot in the head.-Tentei- wrote...

In conclusion: The viper is far better, and even the mantis is noticeably better for Shepard than the Incisor. The eviscerator is great, though.

I said incisor because I like it and as Vanguard I won't be using it that much as to worry about ammo.SpockLives wrote...

Do you have the Firepower Pack? If so I'd pick AR for the Mattock. The Claymore is a very viable option too but you have to get down the whole reload cancelling thing which I'm not very good at lol

eviscerator i used for my soldier but I favorite katana. Same for sniper gun incisor, better window max tech.

Incisor is also "glitched" in that it doesn't receive the normal -25% to damage most other weapons get when they are equipped by your squad. So the damage from your squad using the Incisor and you/Shepard using the Incisor is the same per bullet, but the squad has unlimited bullets and perfect accuracy(most of the time).
To the OP, use what you like, but I personally like the Viper over the Incisor, but then you stated it was a personal preference and thus what I like doesn't matter. Claymore is fun for the most part(beast mode) but I generally have more fun and more options with the Viper and Eviscerator. Have fun with your Vanguard, and keep us updated on how you do.

I do not have the Firepower pack (waiting for that $15 my friend owes me) so I choose the Claymore.
And this is my build for my Slam-Vangaurd.
Inferno Ammo
Squad Cryo Ammo
Heavy Charge
Shockwave-1
Pull-0
Destroyer
Crippling Slam
Squad:
Zaeed- Incisor, Disrupter Ammo, Nades, and Concussive shot, somthing for every type of armor
Mordin- Incinerate, Cryo (fast recharge), and Stun, all useful

About the incisor - I put a question to a dev about this about a year ago. Here is how it went:
I Posted a message to Eric ****nan today:8/31/2010, 12:57 PM
An issue came up in the forums that said Incisor's were bugged ( ie squadmates had same damage as Shepard ). Is this a known fact? I recently did a test on IFF where Incisor on squadmates with squad cryo ammo was 10% better than same setup with Viper on squadmates ( suggested by another poster ). Would like to know for sure if this is true. Squadmates usually do x% of damage shepard does with same gun?
Here is his reply:
I asked our weapon designer and he has verified this in the past and the henchmen do still have a penalized damage output on that weapon. Keep in mind that henchmen are very accurate with that weapon, and the weapon always fires 3 bullets at a time. Also, henchmen have unlimited ammo.
I actually used it with my shotgun-heavy soldier videos on Korlus. Its great for shields, and if you are not worried about running out of ammo (like OP says ) its not a problem.

The Claymore made for the most interesting playthrough with my Vanguard. That gun was made especially for that class and compliments the biotic charge well. Its challenging to make sure you always have a shell loaded before you charge :-) and extremely fun, especially with cryo ammo.
