I'd say its safe to bet that Garrus is a prominent squadmate. Perhaps he won't be available for the entire game, but Garrus' complete redesign in armor (as opposed to Tali/Liara's repeat of their ME2 clothing) is a strong indicator that Garrus was given special attention in ME3.

Garrus and his armor in ME2 made me so damn angry for a very bad reason.

You do the loyalty mission right...  I was like "sweet, maybe he'll fix that bullet hole"

Press they 'Y' button.....  color palette swap.  WTF?!  Rage quit (not really but still)

True. However I was mostly trying to convey that Bioware decided to give Garrus slick new armor as opposed to simply repairing his old Archangel suit; this confirms that the character is at least heavily involved in Shepard's squad.

Oh I completely 100% understand the point you were making it just reminded me of something that aggravated me to no end.

That is literally the ONLY reason I broke down and got the DLC for alternate appearances.  And Garrus looks pretty epic in that too:

AND IT'S ALL REPAIRED!  YAY!

Like I said, the Geth "retcon" didn't bother me. I was only relaying what I've read others whine about for pages and pages and pages. I do wonder why the Geth don't go ahead and make EVERY body a multi platform. I doubt the writers would have to work too hard to come up with some excuse.

I think Legion is a prototype. Plus, the Geth don't want bodies, their dream is to build a dyson Sphere and live in it forever.

That goes contrary to their ultimate goal of building a superstructure to unite all of the geth. It's better to put all of their recources into one large project instead of splitting up to upgrade all of their bodies.

I'd say that Tali's also gonna be a pretty prominent squadmate throughout the game as well, considering that she's getting a new Bonus Power that Shepard will eventually be able to use. (after all, why give her a brand new Bonus Power if she'd only be available for a few missions?)

Where were Garrus and Tali confirmed to be permanent?

I am assuming that "the Vigilante" character will also be a major character.

Who is that? Have I missed something important?

BTW, Garrus and Tali have not been confirmed as permanent by any official source (The ME wiki is usually well-informed if inofficial, but in this case they're wrong to state this as a fact). About Tali it has been said that "she can join your team" and of Garrus it was assumed that he's permanent because he appears in the demo.

There was a thread about it not long ago.

Because Legion is cool? In all of ME1 and most of ME2 we learn Geth = Bad and Geth = enemy. Now we meet a Geth platform that speaks and tells us the Geth are not, in fact, as evil as people portray them. Not only that but this Geth, now called Legion, wishes to help Shepard stop the collectors and from what we've seen in the demo, he's (or it actually) is also there to help Shepard during at least a part of ME3. I mean... that's just cool.

I imagine the questionable permanence is relating to either a.] they could be late comers to the squad [ala Legion], or b.] have moments where they may leave the squad either out of rage or character development. As opposed to Vega, who might be with you the entire game, barring death. But we know Garrus is on the ship, so I'd say he's at least around for a couple of missions.

That said, I think we'll see a LOT of temp squad mates, possibly of characters we don't necessarily even recruit. [Like Aria and Anderson.]

My question is does "permanent squadmate" = "sqaudmate that I didn't choose" or does it mean "can be on my squad for the whole game if I want"

I'm not gonna lie, I think it's unfair that I have to be forced to have Ashley and Tali on my squad and I dont really care for either of them......

I only ask about the definition of "permanent squadmate" because they said they're making the squad smaller and it seems like they've basically said "this is your squad, Garrus, Tali, VS, James, and Liara"......the old squad was at most 12 (if u had Zaeed and Kasumi) and at least 10. So how much smaller is the new squad? I never even used Tali.....oy....

I'm hoping for 8. That would leave some space for ME2 characters. I greatly resent that all the ones we can reasonably count as long-lasting at this point are from the ME1 team or newcomers.

I'm going to dare to be different and say who I actually think will be permanent squad mates other than : Garrus, Liara, Tali, VS, and Vega

Legion - Barely any ME2 face time. Could easily be built upon further.
Grunt - We need a token Krogan and Wrex is busy.
Feron - Thane can't fight if he's dying, though I would prefer Thane. What else is he gonna do?
Prothy- was hinted upon but unconfirmed. Could just be an NPC but could be a good plot device
Salarian - a token salarian is needed (Hopefully Mordin but I doubt it)
Jack - what else is she gonna do? With Shep she will have all the death and destruction she wants.
Vigilante - Possible squadie but I think she was just an actress in the live action trailer. We'll see.
Batarian - Possible but very doubtful since you destroyed their world. Yet to have a Batarian.
Raloi - New to the galaxy. This would introduce us to the Species the quickest.
Samara - If Paragon play through, I can see this. She said she you could call upon her anytime.

These are just choices I think will be available. You will be limited on how many you can recruit. maybe five from this bunch.

Nope, Bioware confirmed they're not really calling anyone "permanent" since there will be all sorts of twists where you will lose/gain party members. The ones you named are more "long term" but not permament, according to Bioware.

This may have been theorized before, but scouring the threads for a quote isn't worth my time.

Bioware confirmed that your squad will be small. I think it would/would've been awesome if Bioware gave you the choice of who your five squad mates would be while your own omissions take on secondary roles. Now I don't work for Bioware or make games, I only play games, so I don't know how that process would go. But that would be my ideal squad selection.
