Hey guys... has anyone else had intermittent freezing issues with the 11.7 drivers? I havn't had a chance to roll back to any previous revisions yet, but I'm getting horrible in game intermittent freezes. (I also have the CAP3 profiles by the way). I've read where people get these types of freezes and it will come back... I"m usually not patient, so I'm not sure if this is the same. I can't do anything (no ctl-alt-del, alt-tab, etc... just hard frozen, and reboot).

I'm running my crossfire system at any combination of settings I can try (various AA / sampling rates), and nothing seems to make much of a difference (including various Catalyst AI settings). In general, I get good FPS, but the experience is still "stuttery"... and doesn't really feel like I'm getting around 60fps....

I've considererd heating issues (its a very new rig)... but just have not seen this in any other titles. Temps also seem to be within acceptable range (I am not currently overclocking at all). Battlefield BC2, for example, seems to push my GPUS a bit harder in DX11, but I have had 0 freezing issues with that game.

I've had the game for a while, but have not played for lengthy sessions until recently... and am finding the experience very very disappointing. :(  (Loved DA:O).

8GB Ram (DDR3 1866)
Logitech G35 Headset / usb sound

Win7 64

Any suggestions / comments?

Thanks in advance,

I am running a Win7 32 with a single 6950(11.7) and so far no freezing or issue of really any significance. Sorry I don't have dual 6950s to be able to comment on crossfire, but my rig runs 40-60fps most times on ultra high, and only 2x AA. If you are getting freezing I would have to think it is more than just a bad driver, but maybe someone running crossfire has a better idea.

What kind of temps are you running on your GPUs and do you monitor both or single?

I usually monitor the first card (the hotter)... (can gpu-z log both?). At any rate, I've been playing now for about a half hour or so with no freeze (earlier it froze after about 5 mins.. go figure). I believe I turned v-sync on this time.

The top temp I'm seeing is about 88C... which, while hot, doesn't seem horribly off from other crossfire numbers I've seen for the 6950's. (I did not flash to 6970 or anything like that btw).

If it truly was an overheating issue, I would have expected it to manifest in other games as well though (bad company 2 for example, which is another DX11 title).

Bah, so frustrating to build a shiny new box and have problems like these... : (

EDIT: I also thought I'd point out that the freezes I get are never in combat... its usually a cutscene or random walking around.

Another update... had another freeze. This time after almost an hour of gametime. The game froze right AFTER a fight.

The max temperature logged prior to the freeze was 89... then it was coming down to 82-84... it had been running at around 89 for a bit.

Just curious, but are the gpu-z fan speed %'s correct? It seems odd to me that at the highest temps I'm seeing, my gpu fan speed readout never exceeds 59%...

I am running a MSI twin frozer single card, and my max temp has been 68 c. Cards are supposed to max at 105c but it has been my experience that anything pushing 90 can do weird things. I use MSI afterburner to monitor temps and fps in game, you may want to check it out, because with msi cards you can also alter and graph fan speeds.

Well... I can easily push my GPU temps down by using the AMD overdrive manual fan speed control (setting to 80% leveled my max temp to the mid to low 70's)... I do need to also check my cpu temps probably (since DA2 is pretty processor intensive). Just cursory monitoring of that though doesn't seem like it goes much higher than 50-53c.

At any rate... a lot of this seemed to start after I got my usb headset. Is it possible that the usb sound drivers could cause these types of issues (Logitech G35). The simulated 7.1 surround using dolby headphone sounds fantastic on this game. I probably need to uninstall the headset / drivers and try my previous setup as well.

Are you using the manufacturer's sound card drivers or the default Windows ones? The Windows default ones are often pretty awful. Also, have you checked the option to force stereo sound?

For the USB sound headset you have to use the manufacturer's drivers (at least I believe that is the case). At any rate, yes, I am using the drivers from logitech. I have unchecked the option to force stereo sound, so that the sound is passed through to the headset as 5.1 surround. (But I have tried it both on and off to see if it makes a difference with freezing, and it doesn't appear to do so).

Well... just played for about an hour, and then froze again. This time I had been running my GPU fans at 80% and GPU temps did not exceed 80c (usually in the mid to high 70's during battles, lower at other times). My CPU temps maxed out at 54c on one of the cores, but generally averaged around 50c.

So... these numbers seem perfectly fine to me. The performance in game while its working is also very good (except for some cut scenes which can have very very low framerates for some reason).

... still confused. : ( I guess the next step would be to get rid of the audio drivers... but I have to say that I am VERY impressed by the sound of the G35's... positionally with Dolby headphone audio they are really nice.

@ least at this point my lockups seem to be less frequent (after an hour)... but its still very annoying, especially since they are hard lockups that require me to restart my computer.

FYI... 11.8 Drivers + upping my GPU fans to 90% have been working perfectly! No freezes yet after a couple of days of playing.
