The geth are synthetic, they don't need a planet. Quarians do need a planet since they evolved on one and no life that evolves planetside can live in space for too long without serious adverse side effects. The Quarians already have immunity issues and I'm sure if their skeletons function similar to that of humans their bones are weakening too after a few generations in space, even with artificial gravity. The Geth should be offered to leave peacefully if they can't coexist with the Quarians.
Which side should have ownership over the Quarian Homeworld?

Let the quarians have their homeworld and let the geth work as gardeners. They already seem to work as gardeners on the quarian homeworld right now, or so I got the impression from Legion.

You are a machine, too. Levers, ball joints, electrical signals, hydrolics, etc.
Only if you want to use a very broad definition.
I suppose a horse and a car are the same thing.
No, it's the fundamental definition of "machine." The human body, a geth body, a horse, and a car would all be 'machines.'
What separates a horse and a car is that a horse is aware and, if left to its own devises in a suitable environment, can act independently. A car sits there while waiting for a driver.
Now, look at the two above scenarios, and tell me which one sounds more like the geth?

I can program a car (well, not most cars, but they do have them) or any machine to perform a task without human supervision.
That's not really the point though.
The nature of the beast is different. A car and a horse perform the same fundamental function, but as you pointed out they are not the same thing.

The geth can be spoken to and reasoned with. They are an intelligent life form and deserve the same rights.
- Edit: The thorian also fell under that, but BioWare decided I would be forced to kill it.

You can train a horse to perform certain tasks too. And even if you program a car, the car is not aware that it's a car. It does not 'think'. It cannot make any observations or ask any questions outside of its strictly programmed mechanics. It does not attempt to learn or demonstrate any curiosity about the world around it.
Suppose you have a mechanical horse. It acts and behaves exactly like a normal horse. It's curious about its surroundings, is aware that it's a horse, and goes through the same instincts and thought processes as a horse. What would separate the two? The fact that one is organic and one is mechanical?
