Some shows are bearable but I'll definitely be a lot more cautious.

I hate some.
I deslike some
I'm ok with some.
I love some.

Anime is a mixed bag. A VERY, VERY mixed bag.

It ranges from one extreeme to another and mixed everything and anything in vasious quantities. Any blanket statement about anime is redicolous.
It's like asking "do you like movies?" What movie? Waht genre? By which director?

@Mondo - oh then you will HATE trash like Strike Witches, Rosario Vampire and Ikki Tousen. IT's 99% fanservice, 1% nothing.

Exmaples of various animes and my thoughts on them:

Vision of Escaflowne - Great
Excel Saga - funny
Jin Roh - fukken great
Cowboy Beebop - great
Rune Soldier - funny
Macross (first one) - great
Macross (all others) - garbage
Saint Seiya - love/hate (love the characters and the potential, hate the execution)
Azumanga Daioh - it's like Sinefield on crack
Black Lagoon - love/hate (same reasons as Saint Seiya)
Every other shonen anime - mostly hate
5cm per second - great
Grave of hte Fireflies - if you're not crying, you dont' have a soul

....

The biggest problem I have with anime is that it does so well in some aspects at creating interesting and deep characters, but then does also so well at totaly subverting it with unnecessary, over-the-top and stupid things.

I normally avoid the dubs but occasionally they help.
e.g. Shinesman (an animated power-rangers spoof)- subtitled-they tried to literally translate the Japanese and it is rather dull
However, the dub cast had fun making it and so the dub is much funnier (intentionally)

I enjoyed Plus, Frontier and Zero (despite the ending) more than the original, although mostly because I didn´t like how the love triangle was resolved. In that regard I liked more the movie version.

I just stopped watching 7 around ep 15. And the less said about II the better.

I just can't bring myself to do it. For me, it's like rermoving an integral part of the experience.

Its like saying does anyone else disliked video games or movies...... or books etc. Unfortunately, the mosty popular or marketed ones are the ones you are probably basing your opinion on.

only read first two post of this thread. I grew up watching anime, but that doesnt mean I can come up with 20 different anime series that I love. I usually liked watching those for the mere fact that it seemed more adult and had more action than cartoons such as Rugrats and Doug (of course). I HATED how certain ones would have 10 episodes to draw out a battle with filler and what not.

I still watch it from time to time, but can't stand the overly major fan serivce that most seem to have, showing off panties and what not. The main anime that I feel are pretty good, that I watch are

Berserk (which they are finally updating with a new movie www.youtube.com/watch ) Had an original 20 something episodes, which continues in the comic that came before it... and the comic is actually still coming out with new content.) Dark fantasy, very violent, comic is much more adult.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayl - only those 4 episodes, beginning is definitly a bit dramatic, but its great to me nonetheless )

And... I think thats it as far as anime I'd buy. A few others I haven't seen in years that don't have annoying fillers/annoying charcaters that I can sit, watch and enjoy are Gungrave and Outlaw Star. But that was long ago. I get annoyed with characters that act like Vanille from FF13, absolutely can't stand it.

I hate anime. It's got to be one of the most mentally degrading forms of entertainment I can think of. I was forced to watch it at one time in my life and I went away feeling as if I had lost a few brain cells. Don't flame me for having an opinion please. I was asked if I liked anime so I responded truthfully.

So...drinking beer? Depending on how much you gulp down in a certain time frame you definitely get the mentally degrading part.

mind if I ask you what cartoons you watched as a child?

wait.. that's not the connection I'm looking for. Since Anime is actually a medium for adults AND children in Japan, is part of their culture, and thus commands the same level of respect and effort as hollywood in North America

I was just pointing out something else that is mentally degrading, or it can be at least. Whether it's entertaining or not is up to the individual

I find the Hellsing OVA dub superior to the subbed version.

With the exception of Ghost in the Shell, the rest of it is crap. Childish, pretentious garbage.
