The only exception is Persona 4: The Animation with a valid excuse.
Otherwise, no, I dislike anime.

What have you watched thus far? (you've seen other Studio Ghibli too I gather?)

Series? Off the top of my head.....

Noir, Serial Experiments Lain, Full Metal Panic!, Evangalion, Hell Girl, Samurai 7, Blood+, Gunslinger Girl, "Now and Then, Here and There", Azumanga Daioh, Haibane Renmei.

Hell Girl is pretty recent so I guess there are a few series after Ghost in the Shell that grabbed my attention.

Hehe.....I am.  I started watching anime in the 80s on VHS tapes and the dubs were pretty bad.  Japanese sounds so much cooler too. :D

You should give dubbed series another try. I mean, it's been over 22 years since the 1980s
And I'm not knocking on Japanese with subs at all. I like those too, but not to the exclusion of English dubs.

Well, I was being a little extreme before, but I totally equate the Japanese vo's with the animation. It just looks right and sounds right.

Most of the time I fidn dubs annoying, there are some rare cases where they actually work like in GITS:SAC and the Read or Die series.

I've liked quite a few anime. Lucky Star, Guren Lagann, The World God Only Knows, Code Geass, Death Note(until you know what happened to you know who in episode 24(or was it 25... it's been awhile)), and others I can't remember at this time. Bottom line, animes either range from great to god-awful to hentai, and to say I dislike anime as a whole would be crapping on the gems I've seen through the years.

So, to answer your question, nope.

This one gets it, but I still think Lucky Star and Code Geass suck.

And go read(or watch I guess) Bakuman because I say so! also it was done by the same guys who did Death Note.

I seen Akira many years ago but never understood it.

Earliest Anime/Mango/whatever I seen was Battle of the Planets on television in the 80's.

Akira has great animation but I personally think it's overrated in the story dept.

It was never that good to begin with.

It was always about the animation and the music, which are still fantastic, and still haven't really been matched, even with all the advances in technology.

The actual story and characterization and plot, as the movie presents it, meh. Mostly it has being "adult" and that cool motorcycle chase behind it, and being a LOT of people's first exposure to "hey look, in Japan cartoons aren't always for kids!"

So its got that factor built in, along with other things like Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Lodoss War and Tank Police. Which are mostly famous for being violent or mature and anime that was actually here in the early 90s being presented specifically AS anime, rather than the story being anything interesting.

Oh and Battle of the Planets still feels like a bad joke off of Gatchaman.

I won't say Akira is in my top 5 but I do consider it groundbreaking and revolutionary for its time. Sure, the story is chaotic and takes a back seat to the visuals but still holds up well for me compared to most.

I would love if they made some new movies or OVAs(with great if not better visuals). For the full manga experience and plot, that way then the story would not be as chaotic.

I don't watch anime and I hate what they did with Dragon Age II.
For example: Fenris, he looks like he jumped right out of an anime series.
