Why? I can't really give a reason... I just don't like the big eyes and the overall art concept...
It's like kindergarten children: Too loud, too colorful, too hyper...

The thing about disliking anime it's like saying you dislike cartoons. There are a ton of animation genres out there and not every animation is like Tom & Jerry or in Japanese animation Lucky Star or something like that. You have Disney who use animation to tell great stories and many cartoons are designed for many different types of people., Western cartoons have their hyper loud obnoxious shows and they also have stuff for older kids like the Batman animated series. Same rule applies with Anime it's not all big eyed people being hyper and crazy there are serious Drama shows and Action shows,Sci Fi shows and even Ghibli movies which take notes from Disney. So i think it's kinda odd for people to say "I dislike anime" it'd be like saying "I dislike films" when considering how many films exist there will be always films you like.
I'm with you there. When did anime itself become a genre?

Someone rezzed it it seems, so the discussion is back on.
This thread is so full with ignorant and shallow-minded people that I can't even be bothered to mix myself into the discussion yet again.

On the other hand, I thought Hellsing was pretty good. Would be better without Alucard McMary-Sue tainting it, though.

I do hate most anime.
But in anime's defence I also hate most videogames, movies, music, people etc
So what's my point?
Err, try Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, Planetes or Samurai Champloo.
They're awesome.
Yes, yes it is.The Baconer wrote...
I think the most resent one I sat down to watch was Highschool of the Dead. I made it to the second-to-last episode before I realized I was just in denial, and that the show really was just a piece of crap.

That's the case with most shonen anime, imho. And it's certainly frustrating that fans of those actively dislike main characters who are actually not so one-sided. They fave anime characters based on "strength" or "badass", and "story-lines" for endless battles/awesome-fights. These shonen-fan-boys and that kind of anime/attitude are to be disliked, of course.

Actually, a really good one that's older is, Rurouni Kenshin. Seasons 1 and 2 are really good, season 3 I agree it went downhill and forsook everything that made the series great.
The fight between Kenshin and Saito where the Battousai reemerges is like my top pick for best action sequence in an anime.

Anyway my take on this topic now most anime today kind of really suck, go with manga you fools!
I also kind of hate myslef for watching the new Hunter x Hunter anime because they edit it to no end for kids but I still love the story, damn you Togashi and your good plots.<_<
Yo eroeru that's why you need good shonen like Hunter x Hunter or One Piece(but it still sucks it gets fanboys like the ones you are talking about) and I am talking about the manga for both, their anime shows are okay at best, oh and Bakuman no fights in that shonen manga/anime.

Do we have a necro-able anime appreciation thread around here somewhere? Would love to get more discussions and suggestions regarding it.

Really need to get myself into manga-reading... Though for Hunter X Hunter I'll probably watch the older series first (love the art-work - kinda Berserk'ish). I've watched Bakuman, and though I didn't get into it at all first, it still stayed with me for its originality amongst shonen stuff.

Also for a shonen it can get very Berserk'ish=]

Thanks for the invite. I'll try to discuss something there.
One more thing - Air Gear was absolutely fabulous, if it can be indeed called shonen in the strict sense.

Well Code Lyoko until a few weeks ago, until I knew it was returning next year. Anyways, any other anime show? Like Bleach, when I watch it I Bleach my eyes and brain.
"Todays" anime shows are sh*t.

In general, I dislike the anime style as I am not a big fan of the animation and art style. That being said, there are some very awesome anime films like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away and the upcoming Dragon Age movie (yes, I am shameless). Again, speaking broadly, I find many anime films and shows to be more style than substance. Possibly it is because they are written and drawn for a Japanese sensibility and cultural acumen that I lack as a non-Japanese person or a person that has not spent time learning to appreciate it.
However, the one thing I do hate about anime is those extreme anime fans who treat ALL anime as the best thing since ramen. Just like cartoons and animation in North America, Europe or anyplace, some anime is very good, but some is complete garbage. Realize this and spend your time and money on the good stuff. *sheesh*
