Hey, speaking of Bioware and anime

I think I have a concussion from facepalming.

Man, that's so stupid BioWare. It's way ugly.

That looks better than I thought it would. Now I'm hyped for its release and hopefully the Funimation channel plays it some time.

Funimation channel? How would one go about acquiring such awesomeness?

Saying you dislike anime is like saying you dislike books, or films.

It's too broad a category.

I like anime. I bet most of the people who hate it haven't watched Ghost in a Shell, Samurai Champloo, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or even Cowboy Bebop.

Also Berserk. If anyone can seriously tell me they don't like the Berserk anime, and especially the manga. I'd have to think they were a bit crazy.

You're not the only one. I dislike it too...

Why? I can't really give a reason... I just don't like the big eyes and the overall art concept...
It's like kindergarten children: Too loud, too colorful, too hyper...

Well said. Also too sentimental and hyper-dramatic ... and faces and eyes are too unrealistic.
Overall annoying :pinched:

Couldn't the same be said of liking a broad category? I think when people say they dislike anime (including me) they mean that they dislike most (but not all) of it and/or characteristics that define it.

For instance, I like cookies and dislike anime. Does that mean I love all cookies? Nope, but in general I like them. Same thing with anime, it's just a general dislike.

As someone who does like Berserk (the manga) I can imagine why some may not like it.

I noticed anime likes to draw attention to eyes, mouth ticks and dramatizes gasp expressions.

...it gets cheesy.

Oh yeah, that's right, "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is the best anime ever.

Could've sworn that show was made in America.

Anime is an artstyle.  Avatar The Last Airbender was actually inspired by anime and shares similarities to the artstyle.  Therefore, it can be considered anime.

Anime is not an artstyle. Anime is Japanese animation. Or more specificly, Japanese graphic novels (manga) adapted to animation (though not every single Japanese animation is an adaptation of a manga).

Manga = Japanese graphic novels
Anime = Japanese animation

Nothing more, nothing less.

Therefore. Avatar is NOT an anime, because Avatar is not a Japanese animation.

So called masterpieces of Anime (Japanese Animation).
Still too sentimental, hyper-dramatic with unrealistic faces (specially Eyes and noses). So I'm right in overall :)

You guys mean one can't say he doesn't like (for example) "Chineese food" because that would mean he doesn't like any food ? Yet I hear similar statements very often.

So maybe I'll say it more clearly. I've seen many animes but none of them I liked. And most of them i literally hated.
Because of that I am not going to waste my time to watch them all hoping to find maybe that special one that would appeal to me. This may sound kinda ignorant but this is how it is.

But at least I can safely say : I don't like anime in general.

EDIT: Oh yes, there was only one anime that I liked. It was "Bible Black" serie.

Yeah some one is full of crap, also given the lovely new "Bashing direction" I think I'll make a topic bashing  "Reality TV" Sitcoms, and sports shows. All for the "Discussion" of course.

What do you expect? I noticed many (but not all) of the ones who bash anime are the ones who bash anything coming from Japan including video games, cars, etc. They are so adverse to that area of the world that they would rate Superman 64 higher than Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They are unaware that one of the pillars of fantasy/sci-fi that has influenced Western movies and video games, Star Wars, takes heavy influence from (admitted by Lucas himself) Akira Kurasawa's Hidden Fortress. It's a part of life. Gotta have bigots in the mix. And don't even mention jrpgs. We had this discussion before lol.

Hmm true enough, but I think I'll have some fun with them. Making my topic now actully, where I will target the absurd nature of sitcoms, major sports, and real TV.

It won't do much to sting them unless of course those shows weren't from Japan. Oh before I get flamed by bigots who hate anything coming from Japan and the fact that their beloved Star Wars is quite influenced by Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress and other Kurosawa films, the best praise in any medium is to get praised by those peers considered to be at the highest echelon of the medium whether its film or gaming. Here's a nice video and some quotes:

Steven Spielberg: "I have learned more from him (Akira Kurosawa) than from almost any other filmmaker on the face of the earth"

Martin Scorsese: "Akira Kurosawa is my master.."

Francis Ford Copolla (Godfather): "One things that distinguishes Akira Kurosawa is that he didn't make one masterpiece or two masterpeices, he made like eight masterpieces"

Frederico Fellini: "the greatest living example of all that an author of the cinema should be"

Ingmar Bergman: "Now I want tom make it plain that The Virgin Springmust be regarded as an aberration. It's  touristic, a lousy imitation of Kurosawa. At that time my admiration for the Japanese cinema was at its
height. I was almost a samurai myself!"

Meh I tend to watch films from around the world, better to understand them. Understanding doesn't always have to lead to sympathy or a "Liberalist pacifism" but it gives an insight of the culture, values, ideals, and aspects of a people. Its like how some question "Why does group X hate us" pick up a history book, some lititure, or a relgious text from the region, then it might be obvious. Being stuck in your own corner is only a good idea if you favor 100% isolationism.
