Okay, I'm at the part in the campaing where you are attacked by three Shadow Reavers in the Shadow King's fortress. I'm attempting to cast the true name scroll by taking direct control of Ammon orthe Gith, it won't work, the item will activate but the spell itself won't activate. They are not being disrupted they just won't use the spell. It's worked before and It's even worked here before (but Black Garius killed me and I forgot to save right before I went to battle with him) the only thing different is that I installed Mask of the Betrayer since then, is that the reason? Is their a patch or something I can install because this is quite irksome.

It seems that at least one other person had this problem:  thieves guild

His solution was to uninstall MOTB, but I don't think you need to do that.  I have all the expansions and tons of mods in Override and have never had this problem.  I think all you probably need is a change of approach.

First, be sure you're fully updated.  If MOTB did create this problem, it was fixed long ago.

Second, Mr. dropke said that the icons that showed up in his task queue changed and that he no longer got the "Use Item" option.  If this rings a bell, try this:

First, open Zhaeve and Amon Jerro's inventories.  You should see a True Name Scroll item in each of them.  Drag this item to your quickbars.  Now, to use it, hit TAB until the Shadow Reaver is selected as your target, then click or type the link on your quickbar.  A couple things to avoid - don't get interrupted, don't get impatient, and don't issue any other commands (not even Voice commands like VOE) until the spell succeeds.

I'm a little confused about the version/patch installs as well. The sense I've made of it so far depends on whether you have dvd copies of the game or a steam download.

If Steam, then you should be good to go with a MotB install right over your OC install, because they get downloaded all patched up.

If you have dvd versions then the patches you use are different depending which expansions you have. I suspect you have cd/dvd versions? That would mean you're missing a modfix for compatability between the OC and MotB and different patch versions.

What you do in this case is a fresh reinstall of both disks (you can elect to keep your save games so it's no problem, you won't lose anything).

Do a fresh install of the OC and don't patch it. Install the MotB right over the top. Then patch it to the current 1.23 version. Then you should be good to go, with your saved games. For guidelines on patching check out the sticky thread in the General NWN2 forum here, it runs you through step by step.

It says my current game version is 1.10, I never did a patch that I can remember on the original game and right now I have an update running, will this help or am I just going to have to uninstall everything?

I do have CDs of the game I bought the platinum version which comes with the original disk, motb and soz... if what I'm doing now doesn't work I'll try re installing it.
